It kinda depends on if they were a bum willingly or if they just had a bad stroke of luck. About 11 years ago, I ran out of money and had to live on the loose change I could scoop up at the drive through windows at the mall just over a mile from my house. I'd go up every night for several months during the winter of `16 around 2:00 a. m. and grab as much of the change as I could find. Some nights, I found nothing, some nights, I got lucky and fond a couple bucks. Twice I found a fiver and one night I even found a 20!!
The bindery I'd been working for laid me off early that year and never called me back then, went out of business! My aunt discovered a kind of job service through AARP and took me there to sign up and apply for it. Of course, I NEVER got any of the kinds of work I was qualified for or wanted!! All I got was a part time (18 hours a week) minimum wage ($7.50 an hour) job as a fucking janitor!! I stayed there at the Red Cross for just over a year until I was kicked out of my house by my ex-sisters a week before Christmas `19. I WAS able to save up a good chuck of change, several thousand dollars but, thanks to my aunt throwing all her millions away on scammers, I got stuck paying all her bills and that broke me a year after she took me in here!! Thankfully, a few months later, I got a huge wad of cash from the sale of MY house and I've been living off of that ever since.

The past is past. Many people have gone through this and gotten over it. My brother was a slacker then one day he thought "If I don't get off my ass I'll be hanging around here another ten years." So he went to law school. Worked well for him.
