That depends. If you're truly in it with him? Never. But truly being in it with him means him being in it with you as well, and being cognizant of the load you're currently carrying. If i were in his position at some point i'd take any job i could get. Sometimes in life to get moving forward again you have to take (at least a temporary) step back. And sometimes those step backwards can lead you to new doors and new opportunity.

One thing life has taught me is life is not a game to be won, only played. Control is an illusion. You can build and build and build in life.
