Boyfriend is always losing or misplacing things, today was the last straw

My boyfriend is constantly losing his keys or misplacing his wallet; forgetting where he put important papers, stuff like that. Well today he informed me that his iPod is missing. I am very upset because this was my first real gift to him and it cost a lot of money...more than that, it's the fact that this keeps happening. What I want to do yell at him and tell him to get his crap together, that this can't keep happening. I know when I see him he's going to be upset. What should I do? How should I handle this situation?

He might have ADD. It happens to me constantly as well.

The only way for him to handle it is using coping mechanisms. Hang out a key hanger, let him stick in the door or whatever and make him think about it in the beginning. After a while he'll do it automatically without thinking about it.

Getting upset over it is only going to make things worse, although I can understand why you got upset.

I've been trying that. I don't know how long it's supposed to take before he gets it. I'm not trying to change him, I'm only helping him become more responsible. Being more responsible with your personal items is important. Thank you for your response.

Is his home messy? Perhaps he just needs to clean up a bit so things aren't misplaced so easily?

Aw don't yell at him :( I am the queen of misplacing things. it's not like he lost it on purpose lol just help him look for it I'm sure you'll find it. don't freak out over the little things :)

I won't actually yell at him. It's just frustrating that he doesn't try and keep track of his things. I don't understand why he can't try and be more careful. Of course I'll help him look for it. It just makes me think he can't have nice things because he will lose them.

I'm not going to actually yell at him. It's just frustrating. How would you feel if you bought your girlfrined a nice ring and she lost it? And it's not the first time. Wouldn't you be upset? Doesn't that make you feel like maybe she didn't appreciate it in the first place?

no... but I lose all my stuff on a daily basis yesterday I actually forgot to bring pants to school (well dress pants because my school has a dress code)
