as a dude. I've always had it had the tip of my tongue, but I always held it cause it sounds a bit strange unless they are your SO.

I think "hun" and "mate" would be okay. "Doll" and "babe" seem kind of sleazy if you're just friends, but that is my opinion. Anyway, if you want to say these things, ease into it. If you are abrupt and start calling them that all the time all of a sudden it might give people the wrong idea.

Do it, people will come to realize if it's a habit or not, hun.

my guy friends either use my name or 'babe'. but then they always apologize after using babe lol. so I guess they also feel weird using a term like that for someone who's just a friend.
