Why are jansport backpacks so damn popular?

So its back to school, and this made me realize how popular

This bookpack is...

I remember when I was in elementary school, jansports backpack

Were so popular, and they still are ! I owed one in elementary, middle, high school, and now collage, all different sizes and colors.

But I don't seem to understand what's so special about

A really thin plain bookpack that gets everyone from

Different ages buying it.

Even Bella has one in Twilight, And people in

Other movies.

They use to make a bunch of low quality back packs when I was a kid 25 years or so ago. Jansport was the only one being distributed in retailers that was made out of canvas, and back then they were pretty much indistructable, waterproof, and comfortable. I'd guess because of that they built a bit of a reputation as a good brand. Over there years they picked up a lot of imitators and competition, and seem to have lowered their standards and don't make as good of a product as they use to.

I think some of them are made in USA and have decent warranty. They actually last compared to other bags. I recently sold a 10 y/o used one on ebay for like $30 so they oddly hold their value. The next comparable bag in durability are CamelBak's which is what you're issued when you're deployed, they go for $150-200 easily.

they hold up all year...i've bought other brands for my kids that were cuter or whatever but the jansport always last the entire school year...others maybe till December. I'm sure the northface ones are super durable but they cost too much where as the jansport ones are right in the middle and I can justify the 30 some odd bucks because they hold up.

They are sold in MANY stores. You can get them on sale and they hold everything you need. For some it's the colors and styles.

I like them way better than LL bean...that's the one most people wanted and was cool...but I think most of their patterns are ugly and they are way too expensive.

They have inproved their brand over time with better designs and its a pretty strong backpack that happens to be inexpensive.When I was growing up,there were very few choices of colors..Now you have all kinds of awesome designs.THATS why they are popular.I personally like their brand.

not sure.. they are pretty good quality, mine have always out lasted other brands ones, I got a really nice one with a leather bottom, it will probably last a lifetime! I'm sure there are better backpacks out there but Jan sport is widely available...

They aren't overly expensive (or at least weren't) and they're pretty tough for how lightweight they are... I've owned one years ago and it was a solid bag. I agree it's nothing special though.

These were the best backpacks in the 90's I had one in the 4th grade, got it at JcPenny for around $50? It lasted me 5 years before I bought a new one.

I think its because of the designs and durability.I have had a limited edition art inspired Jansport for like 6 years now...and its still in great shape.

They are aesthetically appealing, recognizable, and they are pretty durable.
