I might prefer christianity a little better than islam because I love the sayings of Jesus, but overall, I disagree with the teachings in the bible and in the quran.

@lanamyqueen, I dislikes all religions I've heard about. That's both Islam, Christianity Judaism, Hinduism, Sikishm and Buddhism (etc.). I dislikes religion because it's lack of logical thinking (for me it doesn't make sense for me) and that the religion are misused. Some people uses religions for power, control others and making too many rules.
When I looking at the Abrahamic-religions, even though I dislikes and disagreeing with all of them, I do also prefer Christianity a bit more than Islam. Christianity have a role model that I thinks is good and that's Jesus. But Islam have Muhammed. He isn't my type of role model.

@curiousnorway I agree with you, I don't like the things Muhammed teaches, but Jesus is a good role model. I still prefer hinduism and buddhism better than other religions (I've been studying religions a lot lately) just because it's more open and it doesn't force you to believe in God, it says in the Gita (The hindu holy book) that it isn't the belief in the lord that will bring you to haven, it's the good actions you make in life, like helping homeless people, saving dogs, etc. I'm an atheist as well and I only believe in what science says about the evolution of the universe.

@lanamyqueen, you have some good points. But Hinduism believes in both rebirths and gods, and Buddhism believes in rebirths. Buddhists do also believe in bad vs good karma and a Hell realm. But I doesn't remember anything from my past lives. So I doesn't believe in Buddhism or Hinduism. My point is that these believes are always flawed according to science. I'm not saying you necessary believes in them, but just wanted to point things out.

Most Indonesians, with the biggest exception being those in Aceh, have a very moderate version of Islam. They are tolerant of other beliefs.
That is not the same version of Islam people from Africa to Paki/Afghanistan believe.
The Indo version is not true Islam. It is much friendlier, in that there isn't this idea of killing people who don't agree with you.
Barack Obama made a huge foreign policy error by applying his experience of living in Jakarta to the beliefs of the people in the Middle East. He presumed the core belief system was the same, but in reality, it is radically different. Try not to make the same mistake.
In my own experience, I get along wonderfully with Indonesians. But I have never met any Arab that I can even stand to talk with, and I've been to the Arabian Peninsula. I remember chatting and joking with Indonesian workers there who had more affection toward the American me than to their Arab hosts.

@WalterRadio real Islam is in wherever we are, that's what we're practice. most of western people misunderstood in some region like remote area of Arab, of Afganistan (I can say some in middle east part) where some Arabs still practicing honor killing, degrading their women etc. It can be seen in India too (where not a majority Muslim there), but what they're practicing is contradict with the true Islam from holy Quran. They're bounded with their ancient culture, thats why only some area have that kind of thing - it's their tradition, not our religion practice. And people said it is Islamic teaching just because they're Arabs. It's not right. You can see Muslims from China, Malaysia, Indonesia, even in USA, Europe, we're not like that, but we're following the same Islam taught from the holy Quran. Thats the real Islam (where we're not bounded with those culture, because it's not our culture, also not Islamic teaching)

What happened was that as Islam spread into SEA, it was softened by the prior existence of Buddhism and Hinduism. So, what you have in Malaysia (and the Indos have) is not the same as how it started back in the Middle East.
So you practice what is the true religion to you, but the Islamic terrorists also practice what the true religion is to them. And Malays are not immune, as one of the worst terrorist masterminds in history was Malaysian. He was very effective because he was an engineer.
You still have the religious police in Malaysia, right? My Malay friends have told me how popular Chinese owned motels are. Malays would go to Singapore to have sex without fear of being arrested, and Singaporeans would go to Malaysia to buy chewing gum.

I have had Persian friends for decades. They escaped after Islamic Revolution there. Yes, the women were forced by law to wear a hajib and can be arrested or beaten if they did not.
I personally know Indonesian women whose genitals were mutilated as infants, in the name of Islam. They did not have their clitoris removed, like Moslems in Africa do, just the labia minora, but it leaves scar tissue that does not stretch.
And let's not forget how some people are encouraged by Islam to throw acid into the faces of girls because they dare go to school.
