An Atheists Take on Religion

Feel free to prove me wrong as I encourage any debate and despite my strong feelings against religion I am actually open to joining one if I was persuaded.

As a devout atheist, I have spent hours looking into religion and its marvels. Religions of the past and present and possibly near future. I've come to see a pattern with them all, all of them are founded and enforced with a paticular hate towards people. The religion of christianity was founded hating the religion of Islam, Homosexuality and other such things. The religion of Islam was founded hating the exact same thing however with hating christianity. Each religion has the same basic hateful structure. Whilst saying this of the older religions, the newer ones do not have this. There is still terrorism that affects this and still well enforces. This brings me onto my next topic.

Religious books. These are the scriptures that entire religions are based on. The Q'uran, the Bible, the triptaka and so much more. These books, unlike the religons are not updated to todays ages but instead they are updated in the way the followers take in. Most of the relgious books have a part stating those who do not believe in the same as you do, you must strike them down. Whilst in an older age, the followers would take this seriously such as the many holy crusades but now instead the followers take them at a metaphorical level. Strike them down with words, strike them down with non-violent actions and so much more unlike how they did in the old ages. The issue however with these books not being updated with the times and the metaphorical language being explained is that some followers take the scriptures literally. This is what leads me to the extreme parts of religions such as ISIS and the westborough church.

The extreme parts of relgion are still very much part of the religion in my opinion, however there are different branches that are far from the new age religion. Imagine religion as a tree, with the roots being morals, the god, the key beliefs. Once the tree starts growing there is moss, weeds and other such negative things growing on the tree, this is the negative parts on religions such as homophobia. Some followers will chip away at these parts and it will be gone, once they've chipped away at it then a new branch will appear which will contain new values. whilst another branch will contain exisiting ones. Sometimes trees will become underdeveloped, or simply fail to grow. Trees will also not grow in unsuitable environments such as christianity in the middle east. Whilst people have repeatedly attempted to plant Christianity there it has never successfully grown. Currently the main religions have gigantic trees with roots reaching back a long time ago. Of course within religons, once they become so big, smaller branches start appearing which become terrorists and radical aspects within the religions. This is still just as much as part of the tree as all the other branches however in comparison to the whole, this branch is far smaller. The issue with trees are at a certain point they decay and die.

There are many dead religions, and their relgious scriptures and books are referred to as myths. So a question i've always wondered to myself is when does a relgious book simply become a book full of myths. We live in a marvelous world where almost anything is accepted in most first world countries and if it isn't accepted in one country it will be in another place. There are satanic churches in america as well as churches for weed. This just leads to the obvious fact that there are still people celebrating and worshipping gods that have became myths such as roman, aztec and nordic gods. So I will repeat the question, when does religious books become myths? These religions might be very close to death but they are not truly dead. If a religion is declared dead and its books declared myths when a large number of people dont beleive in it then surely in my eyes christianity, islam and other large religions are also dead. From what I see every day religion is on its way out as it's becoming a smaller part in peoples lives.

Whilst there is certainly certain countries that religion is very much alive such as islam in middle eastern countries, in other countries such as first world countries religion is becoming a far smaller thing in peoples lives. Even smaller things such as saying grace at the table have been almost entirely removed even in the most religous households. there's a number of key items that are causing religon to die and decay away, the first being consumerism. The most religous events such as Easter and Christmas has almost entirely been seperated from its religous origins. Easter has became almost entirely about the chocolate and the eggs surrounding the holiday. This means in most places and even on the internet that once the holiday comes the relgious reason behind the holiday does not even come to light. This is due to shops and companies taking advantage of the holiday making it a time for discounts and extra food to be eaten because of it. This is the exactly the same case within Christmas as well. Whilst consumerism is certainly a major part within why religion is dying science is also another reason.

Before I talk about science and religon, science is not and has not ever tried to prove god does not exist, this is due to the impossibility of proving something doesn't exist. You can only prove something that does exist rather than the other way round. Science does however prove things and support evidence that contradicts religous claims instead. This has certainly made a giant impact on the relgious community and has caused outrage towards science. This outrage has caused the religous followers to start commiting acts that make them look like fools which in turn damages the overall public view of them. This has happened a lot with feminism also. Science has also developed techniques and other methods of curing people of previously fatal terminal illnesses however religion has stopped the public from recieving these treatments due to their readings saying its not okay.

Overall in my personal opinion, I believe that at one point in history we truly did need religion. We used this to develop a base sense of morals and values, this also helped us by bringing us together. As before relegion we were simply cavemen that dwelled in caves only looking out for ourselves and then religon became a thing which to begin with divided the rich and poor ten fold causing slavery and other such items to become a massive thing. Did I say religon was good to begin with? Well it was originally a harmful process but through years of vigarous torture, wars and other bad things religon has sculpted the human race as it is today. Allowing individuals to become just that, individuals! Today however, being what religion has made us we have outgrown it, even the radical parts of the religon are outgrowing the religon they are part of.
