A Harvard Educated Angela Duckworth said the greatest determinant in your ability to succeed is your grit which is your ability to persevere and conquer and trouble shoot difficult and challenging situations but I believe she failed to capture the full picture, because grit is usually associated with good relationships and good social skills.
I will give you an example, in high school, I had a group of friends with very high iq’s and very poor social skills, one was a child hood genius, another was intellectually gifted, another made the honour roll every single year of school, the fourth guy wasn’t too smart but was a people pleaser so he often attracted gracious people who did not care about his very low social status, I was often hated and bullied for being shy and insecure.
Later on, 3 of the smartest people in my social group became college drop outs, the dumbest one who had more friends got a BA but got rejected for his masters degree, I dropped out in my first attempt at a degree with a D from having terrible social skills, and then improved my social skills and returned to university and got straight A’s raising my total cumulative grade point average to a B+
I know a lot of unintelligent people in grade school who were popular and had good social skills and they all became very successful later on so grit is not the end of the matter, the grit is propelled either by your social skills or the quality of your relationships, even if the only high quality relationship you have is your relationship with God, with your mind, with your education, with your heart, with your dreams, with your hobbies and with yourself or with your food and body.
