For 9 years now, I’ve been receiving death threats and harassing comments by a mentally ill person who says I have no value because I make a middle class salary and he was raking in millions along with his ex wife who made hundreds of thousands. She divorced him after a brain injury left him unable to make money but he continues to mock me for being “uneducated,” because I only have a bachelors degree.
The fact is, a mature Christian or God believer understands money is important and hard work is a virtue, but they do not judge themselves or others based on their income or their appearance, except in the context of dating or romance, where a good look could signify fertility and physical health. Or in a business transaction where intelligence and assets affect your education and prospects.
I know many religious Christians who are successful or wealthy, but do not base their self worth on it. I also know Christians who gave up high paying jobs for lower wage ones that allowed them to serve God in a deeper way and I’ve met doctors who prefer handing water bottles to homeless people, to attending cocktail parties with other rich and educated people.
Not basing my self confidence on how rich or poor I am, makes my life so much easier and many times I will purposely act stupid or discuss my failures with new people to weed out superficial friends who care more about money or status than they do about the love of God.
