1. The Ceiling Is Limitless

A mentor sees not only your current situation but your future potential as well. They see the things about you that are beautiful and not the things about you that are ugly. They celebrate your achievements with you and get upset when you miss out on good things in life.

2. They Inspire More than the Teach

My professor said on the first day of school, that he was there to teach us how to think for ourselves and NOT what to think of others. A good mentor doesn’t tell you what to think, they give you the skills and inspiration to come up with your own ideas on things.

3. A good mentor teaches kindness and not ethics

Rather than lecturing you on issues they consider to be politically important, they will hug you and serve you home made cookies, that is their version of preaching: non-invasive, silent, non-confrontational, inclusive, simple, non-exclusionary, personal, practical and concerned about your happiness.
