What the bible says about taking chances

Ecclesiastes 11:1-2 says:

1 Ship your grain across the sea;
after many days you may receive a return.

2 Invest in seven ventures, yes, in eight;
you do not know what disaster may come upon the land

In the same way that a ship is expensive to build, very large, carries an extremely heavy load, hides the majority of its form underwater, ventures where ordinary people cannot, and must travel very long distances in an endless span of formless and unexciting water, so God wants you to share the same work ethic about your life:

You invest in your future, even at great personal or financial cost, you experience the full throttle of life’s dramas along the way, accept and acknowledge demanding burdens, modestly conceal your hard work, make the sacrifice and effort while others are resting and partying, making great strides in effort and personal change, as well as comforting yourself in God when there are no friends to encourage you, behave with strong character while the world you float on is as supple as water, the end result being: One of the seeds you nurtured during this process will bear fruit, leading to a pistachio bud that can multiply and bring you great wealth.

The second passage echoes the concluding part of the first one, to sow varied and different types of seeds and to invest in multiple opportunities because you never know if one or most of your opportunities will die out. When you invest in multiple ventures you have a back up plan to save you if one of your pursuits is locked. I read that over 50% of employed people have a side hustle. Like me as a professional author, I came up with over 35 back up plans and three dozen pen names in the event that one of my plans fails to bear fruit or one of the names I’ve chosen is blocked by a copy right. Even though I have my main project idea, I still invest in less important projects so that I will have a future mission when my current writing goal is concluded.
