Mr. Manis Friedman on Reward and Punishment

Rabbi Manis Friedman says reward and punishment are just training mechanisms, eventually you have to teach the child to do the right thing because it’s the right thing to do.

I find when I tried to obey God because I wanted a reward, I could never remain obedient, it was only when I obeyed God out of my fear of God or out of my desire to obey God or out of my love and interest in God, that I was able to remain obedient to God.

A guy told me years ago, if you do a good deed but your heart is not in it, your good deed will be temporary and not consistent.
