How I explain the suffering of Job in the bible

In the bible, Jobab claims to be a righteous man and suffers terrible things that make one wonder why we should bother to be righteous. My argument is:

Jobab suffered because he was the king of Edom. He was king in a place where there was no spiritual kingdom, and claiming to be good and perfect, he had to suffer so he could be as good as he claimed to be, only then would his lifestyle match the words that came from his mouth.

Even Jesus had to suffer before he was honoured and governing over the souls of men, the idea that sacrifice proceeds success is universal. And some work in the opposite order where they succeed first and suffer second. Not all are given their just desserts on earth and not all gain their full reward or deliverance in the mortal life.

Abraham was rich but since he obeyed God, there is no record of Abraham undergoing the suffering that Jobab the king of Edom did. Abraham had problems but his problems were small compared to Jobab.
