Best place is to pick up a copy of "what everyone needs to know about Islam" by John Esposito.
It's an academic work and covers the basics and facts without getting too dry.
If you're still interested then "the sealed nectar" by Sheikh Safi-ur-Rahman will flesh out a lot of what Esposito covers. It's a fairly large book though.
But if you're not much of a reader, then you can get many youtube channels. Depending on your native language there are many in Arabic, English and Urdu.
I'll assume you're English native, hence Mufti Menk will probably be your easy listening.

I had the same in mind, once. A good point to begin is to meet with someone knowledgeable at a mosque; ask, and listen - repeatedly and continuously. It will be expected that you learn about the rituals, read the Qu'ran, and Mohammad's teachings (Hadith). The more I learned (and saw/experienced), the less I felt convinced - and dropped it after a while. But draw your own picture - I might 'be wrong' :D
What's the matter, your fingers broken. Just Google it. A better book to read is "Reasons Skeptics Ought Consider Christianity" by Josh McDowell/Don Stewart It answers a lot of questions people ask.
Okay, firstly it’s lovely to hear you’re curious about Islam, Mashallah.
Secondly I recommend learning from scholars. Islamic scholars are the most knowledgeable people on Islam. Here are a few scholars you can find on YouTube: Mufti Menk Omar Suleiman Yasmin Mogahed Dr. Zakir Naik
Then there’s people on the Dawah scene who aren’t scholars but they’re very knowledgeable: Ali Dawah (you can contact him on Instagram too with any questions and you’re likely to get a response, he also converted to Islam, here is his story about that:

You should be able to find those people on YouTube too.
One really good website for learning about Islam where you can ask questions and contact scholars is AboutIslam. net
And a really good book I recommend is “The Secrets of Divine Love” by A. Hewla
If you’re going to read an English translation of the Quran too, a translation I recommend “The Clear Quran by Dr. Mustafa Khattab” because that’s just translated in a way where it’s easy to understand because its more like the English we read and speak today and you can access that translation of the Quran on Quran. com for free. Mashallah.
Also there’s a good book my grandma used to read a lot but I can’t remember the name or author but it’s on my mum’s bookshelf so I’ll look tomorrow and send you the name of that book too.

Oh since you just liked my opinion- you reminded me of this and the book what I couldn’t remember the name of is called: “Heavenly Gems, Sunee Bahistee Zewar” by “Muftee Muhammad Khaleel Khaan Qadiree” ☺️
I recommend Bill Warner's work. American guy who's been studying islam and writing books for 40 years. He makes it very easy to understand. The original text is really difficult to understand even for Arab speaking people, that's why there is so much misunderstanding and different interpretations.

Well, obviously a mufti or aalim told you that Isis doesn't follow Islam, well, the fact is that it does. Keep on denying it while more than half of the world knows it. All that's happened to you is you've been fed all these bs from some islamic sources which would go ahead and claim isis belongs to Christianity or Buddhism. ISIS is an Islamic organisation period, deny it all you want. Facts won't change just because you can't accept it.
A Mufti or Aalim is somebody who is a scholar of Islam and has dedicated a large proportion of time to studying the Quran, the Hadiths, and Islam in general. Telling a Mufti or Aalim their knowledge of Islam is irrelevant is like telling an Economist their knowledge on the economy doesn’t matter. That’s stupid right? Because an economist has dedicated a vast amount of time to studying economics? Well it’s the same thing with Muftis and Aalims.
And actually my Islamic sources from people who have studied Islam and Classical Arabic who have undergraduate degrees and postgraduates in Islamic studies, have told me that ISIS does not belong to Islam, nor does it belong to Christianity or Buddhism or any religion- terrorism doesn’t belong to any religion.
I honestly hope you open your mind one day, and come to learn about Islam. A lot of people with a deep hatred for Islam, learn about it, and end up converting and if they don’t end up converting they realize they were wrong.

Eh, no. They spend years and years in studying Islam at degree level. They don’t “whitewash” anything, they justify the religious rulings they set with evidence from the Quran and the Sunnah. Sunni and Wahhabism are both sects in Islam. Tell me what you know about these sects please, both are not extreme- Wahabists are ultra conservative and kinda like ultra-Orthodox Christians or Jews and yes a number of people from both sects are extremists but that’s not down to Islam, that’s down to the individual.

Again, I’m not lying you’re just brainwashed- in regards to apostasy in Islam that’s a very complicated issue, ridda is not the same as the secular definition of apostasy. And anyway do you want know how many cases there have been in the last 30 years for apostasy? According the US Commission of international and religious freedom, 4 cases. I’m not saying that’s right but the way you’re talking you’d think there’s been at minimum 50 or something.
