I don't believe a lot of things in the Bible, but there are good and true moral principles in the Bible.
I don't for one moment believe The True Creator would command Abraham to sacrifice his own son, for example.
Loving your neighbor as yourself is a good moral principle, and the Golden Rule is the correlated to the Silver Rule. Problem is Jesus stole that from Confuscious and didn't cite his references; a fact they don't tell you in Sunday school, but I learned about 15 years ago on another debate forum.
. Most of the Ten Commandments are derivable through Objective Reason without citing a Bible.
The First and Second commandment are derivable through the Cosmological Argument.
Not murdering, raping, stealing, adulterating, lusting for someone else's wife/husband, etc, is a good idea and is derivable from the Silver Rule.
There is no obvious day which should be considered a Sabbath nor any other Holy Day, and the Christian Apostle Paul even said so in his New Testament letters.
Note that the Tenth Commandment forbids lusting for another man's wife, but does not forbid desiring his daughter, assuming she isn't already married or betrothed. Forbidding all sexual desire for a future partner would be ridiculous and obviously is not the intention of the commandment, so what some radical pentecostals and other cultists do, such as swearing celibacy of no real reason or even castrating themselves, that's INSANE and is not the intention of the commandments.
Note too:
Pentecostalism is against Wisdom and against Paul's own teaching. Paul actually FORBADE "speaking in tongues" unless you could guarantee interpretation. So what Pentecostals do in their "praise and worship" services is both INSANE and against their own Apostles' commandment Paul said NOT to speak out loud in tongues, because people who hear you will think you are INSANE.
So even if you hypothetically had the "Real" Gift of Tongues, you aren't supposed to speak it out loud unless you or someone listening can guarantee an intelligent and accurate interpretation.
Thus Pentecostalism is a fraud.

It’s not just conservative’s who cherry pick the Bible. Anyone who looks to the Bible as an authority will selectively quote only those verses which line up with their world view.
The Books within the bible was written 200 years after the death of Christ so is imperfect document at best. Not that it has stopped anyone who wishes to impose moral authority as claiming it as the absolute word of Christ.
But to answer your question, conservatives cherry pick the Bible because they have too. The bible says nothing against gays or abortion and yes it is claimed Jesus hates both. What is really happening is that modern day fundamental control freaks are using a document many people take as an authority to impose their own hatred on the world by cherry picking the most stilted versus of the Bible. Cherry picking the Bible is the only way conservatives can ignore the openness and beauty offered to us by the master of love, Jesus Christ.
Because actually following it or the old testament where God is scary, is inconvenient to say the least and would land them in prison for life. Plus they prefer the happy uplifting shit and want to dismiss the bad shit.
Because they want to believe what they believe, regardless of any evidence that may prove them incorrect in their beliefs

Why does any religion cherry-pick the shit out of their stuff? Like Muslims worship, a guy that was fucking a 9-year-old, was a bandit and waged war. Both the bible and koran have instructions on how to beat slaves, women, and children. I read those books and try to pick out the useful stuff myself and ignore that bullshit that wouldn't fly in today's world. I feel people that read those books and justify their causes from them do the same. Just like our modern communists that just ignore Stalin killed more people than Hitler.
And let's rember how many times was rewritten lol.
Now I don't want to offend anyone yet I don't belive we humans where so humble back then we savge yo even this days.
It's more to kind understand what is right and wrong but their way of saying it.
Because people need to belive in something to have fate in it. And to be able to blame someone for all the stuff they kind mess up and blame the big guy cuz yo it's easy to blame the gods.2 Timothy 4:1 - 4

In the presence of God and of Christ Jesus, who will judge the living and the dead, and in view of his appearing and his kingdom, I give you this charge: 2 Preach the word; be prepared in season and out of season; correct, rebuke and encourage—with great patience and careful instruction. 3 For the time will come when people will not put up with sound doctrine. Instead, to suit their own desires, they will gather around them a great number of teachers to say what their itching ears want to hear. 4 They will turn their ears away from the truth and turn aside to myths.I think they're trying to find a philosophy in there that guides their life. It's an ancient collection of books and translated endlessly down from ancient scrolls. But it's an insight into humanity passed down over generations. I found it too boring to read though. Beyond the dark parts, I struggled even with Genesis with the list of names.
It's not limited to religious conservatives. Many people cherry pick data, parts of a book, or information to make whatever point they're trying to make. That's why it's always important to put things in context and check a second source before forming one's opinion.
Probably because they never bothered to actually READ it. Oh, sure, they know chapter & verse but have they ever THOUGHT about what they're reading? ANYBODY can memorize and quote lines but do they understand what the overall text was about, etc?
Like you said, they only pick out the parts they like. Not once have I heard Eziekiel 23:30 in a sermon.
No one mis-interprets the Bible than those who claim to be "Christian"
That's why they have 44,000+ OFFICIAL denominations.
This book that says their "god is not the author of CONFUSION" yet these Christian returds are the most CONFUSED bunch on the planet. It’s the rationalizing with slavery and debauchery whilst trying to be holier than thou that makes them look like idiots.
I’m in a months long convo with a guy who keeps saying my opinions on slavery are “out of context.” Yeah, I guess owning a human being has context apparently. This is a middle-school-tier argument that only the most deluded leftoids would cite. Nobody besides the most eccentric Protestants "cherry-pick" the Bible; they follow religious traditions and methodologies that lead to certain conclusions. *Everyone* familiar with Christianity knows this.
Most of them haven't read it and don't mind the hypocrisy. Have you seen the way the Evangelicals go on about Trump, and ignore his many many sins?
Everyone does that with the Bible. My aunt made me read it when I was younger it has some seriously bad things in there but everyone ignores it.
Why do religious progressives cherry-pick the Bible? You will find that the answer to both questions will be the same.
You can find pretty much anything you want in the Bible.
Because miserable people love company would be my guess.
They have serious cognitive dissonance. They are fooling themselves and/or trying to fool others.
https://youtu.be/AqfGu6vTxFYIt may be a political platform for them to nitpick their political stances on
you have to cherry pick the bible cause it contradicts itself. you can't follow it litterally.
I dunno. Why do atheist lib-tards cherry pick the super poor track-record of atheistic systems in preventing the worst human-caused atrocities known to mankind?
Probably similar reasoning going on I suspect.Yeah I'd say murdering the Son of God is pretty dark, yeah
