Do you really think that you would follow the same religion?

Do you really think that you would be following the same religion had you been born to parents of a different religion? Given that:

"Many parents think that their teen’s religious beliefs are similar to their own beliefs. About half (53%) of parents who responded to this survey before handing it off to their teen say that teen has “all the same” religious beliefs as they do. Another four-in-ten (42%) report that their teen has “some of the same” religious beliefs. Few parents (4%) say the teenager slated to take the survey after them has “quite different” religious beliefs."

So, imagine you are one of the many many Christians here, or any other religion here, and you had been born to parents who followed a different religion. Do you really think that you would be an adherent of your current religion? Why/why not?

I’d be more adherent to any other religion because they force it and beat it in lol

it’s the law or die.

At 7, I chose to go receive Jesus in my heart, and asked my mom if I could. (Was a mega church and it was for adults only).

She said I could. It was my decision by the things I had heard about. If hell was real, I didn’t want to go there. If Jesus was real, I wanted to take him everywhere with me, in my heart or my pocket if need be, lol and for him to be another best friend.

But.. being the person I am today. I think I would eventually find this path I’m on logically, if I had any other kind of religious parent.

It probably would have taken me longer, though. Maybe even longer and secretly, if I could manage to think freely.

When you’re a dedicated Hindu who believes one watches you and doesn’t allow negative thinking- it’s kind of hard to think on anything else. Especially with so much time praying to something or someone false for hours in the day. This is just an example. I used to admire them for that kind of lengthy dedication.

It’s sad people live short lives here… and spend it with hours in a building, with their mind on some other (supposedly) living thing, and if they’re not doing that, they’re in some government cycle, or planning some dirty corruption/ uprising.

People always miss the mark of just living a simple life and taking in all the good stuff.

70-80 years on a good note. 100 on a great one.

Yet people like cycles. That’s somewhat off-putting.

Let me say it like this: I’d be super lucky, if I managed to believe and think what I know now, if I had been raised by any other religious parents; any other, than Christianity.

Yet, all religion including Christianity, is bogus. Sorry if I can’t categorize them exactly the same. They just have their differences, in my opinion.

I was born and raised in a Irish catholic family, I disagree with the Catholic Church and their beliefs. The only time my family attend church is for weddings, christening, communions, confirmations and funerals. I wouldn’t say my family is religious, I feel that the only reason my family practice the catholic religion is because it’s part of our culture and it’s what they’ve been taught throughout generations. It’s not that I’m not religious I am, I think there’s truth behind every religion and if you’d find a lot of similarities. Im not part of a religious group, I think that these religious groups are just another way of controlling people and thinking it okay because you’re doing it for God.

My mother is a lifelong member of the Southern Baptist church, which I attended up to the age of 15. I did not attend church regularly for many years, and then started attending a Lutheran church. I have also attended an Episcopal church, whic i quite similar to the Lutheran church.

If I was still born in America, just with parents of a different religion? Yes, I think I'd have my same religious beliefs. I'm atheist and my parents are Christian. Their belief brings them comfort and I'm happy for them, but that has nothing to do with me.

I can speak for myself but I can't speak for my parents. I know my grandparents at least on my dad's side were strict catholics and now my dad's a Buddhist. So I grew up with Buddhism but it wasn't shoved down my throat (because my dad's traumatized and didn't want to do the same with my family) which is why I'm still able to follow the religion.

Well, my mother is Catholic, and my father is a Jehovah Witness. When I was younger I used to consider myself Catholic. But now I don't follow any religion and I consider myself Agnostic.

So yes, even if they had different religions, I still would have no religion.

A big part of why I'm Catholic is mostly because of deep study and research that led me to be. Being the same person i am, i know that i would've followed the research to the same conclusion because when i was not sure i looked at all beliefs for what they are. But i imagine it might've taken me a lot longer if i hadn't already started off as a Christian.

I was skeptical of Christianity at 8, and done with it at 13. I expect I would have been equally skeptical of any other religion.
