I was 10 years old and at the time, I didn’t know death existed. I remember the day like it was yesterday. My parents had informed me that my best friend “was gone.” I remember being confused at first. “What do you mean ‘gone’?”
“Yes, he has passed away.” My father replied as he walked by me just patting me on the shoulder.
That’s it. That’s all the explanation I was ever given. I remember walking to my church after the funeral seeking answers from my pastor about what death exactly was. I remember explaining to him how I felt it was not fair how my best friend would be judged based on only 10 years of life on wether he goes to heaven or hell. The pastor told me that he was called up by the father and that’s why he passed away. I asked him “why would God call him up to heaven just to send him to hell?”
Nothing made sense to me. I became obsessed with the concept of death and started reading about all sorts of theories from reincarnation to oblivion to even ghosts. I still don’t know what happens after we die and it turns out the answers I was seeking as a kid were impossible to answer because nobody knew.

I remember being very young and my parents telling me about my mom's uncle, who at the time was very sick and died shortly thereafter. Then one of my classmates at school had his grandfather die sometime within a year or so of my mom's uncle. We went to the wake. My parents told me to go to my classmate's family and tell them I was sorry for their loss.
I don't remember what my parents taught me afterwards or how though. When I talked to my classmate's family, they replied by saying that their grandfather wasn't dead, but was "just resting". My mom says they seemed surprised that I knew what death was.
I was 13, however, i had a Biblical training and background. I understood death, Soul, and heaven. There was a sense of loss for us but happiness for him.
I dont know when i learned about the concept of death.
