In the incident you cite, the Devil offered Jesus what Jesus ALREADY possessed. Jesus could as easily reversed the offer reminding the Devil that Jesus ALREADY HAD dominion over not only the Earth, reality AND the continuance of the very Devil himself! The Devil's continuance IS by the Creator's will ALONE. An Actor does NOT deign to offer THE PLAYWRIGHT to dictate their part!
Clearly the story was told to a very simple-minded audience who didn't 'see' the obvious!
