Can people have sex in heaven?

Question

So I understand in heaven we won’t need to eat etc but that doesn’t mean we won’t and can’t because eating yummy foods is a gift from God

So I was wondering, can we have sex in heaven - it’s not like we will NEED to but it feels strange how such a strong emotion and feeling would NOT be in heaven..

by the way this is coming from a Christian perspective 😊

Marriage is a covenant.

Covenants aren’t broken with God…

so I think in this newfound perspective (just a few seconds ago), gazing at the covenants- I don’t think this one made on earth between two children of god would be broken. I think you’ll always be bonded to them even in heaven, unless of course there is a scripture in which I am forgetting that says directly there will be no marriage in heaven. BUT maybe no future marriages. So just as all those before Jesus sinned and died and were able to hear his preaching to have chance to go to heaven, all those who lived on earth until his coming and rapture could partake in the gift of marriage of mankind.

ALSO I believe it is referenced because our marriage is supposed to resemble the true love marriage symbolism of Jesus and the ‘Church’ as his bride and the one he is faithful too and loves forever and takes care of. If he will always be married- promised to the church then I believe those who promised themselves to each other on earth as seen before God, would be promised to each other in heaven as well and all eternity.

Sex would not be necessary as eating food, but I think it wouldn’t be a sin to partake in that in enjoyment WITH the promised partner and not only is this a sense of order, but it also means there wouldn’t be some chaotic sexual frenzy in heaven where all the “brothers and sisters in Christ” are essentially doing each other “all in the name of love and free will.”

Free will was always the end goal. God wanted to make us like him but in his timing and not us seeking it out, because it was selfish ambition if we sought it instead of being likeminded with the god head or respecting the cause. Just as Lucifer had his own ambition which caused an attempt to overthrow and followed with his banishment.

Jesus came to show us love and the effects of sin from our wrong choice and all, and once the rapture happens those who believed in him will have that likeness- FIRST starting with the heart of man to desire Jesus be their savior, their wrong choice be forgotten and cleansed, and they be a better man. Then the Holy Spirit baptizes them and they begin to live empowered and also in alignment with god and Jesus.

Then at the right prophetic time, the rapture will happen and the flesh will be completely detached from us, and we will be entirely like them in power, right, and etc etc.

With them from everlasting to everlasting.

I think sex was a gift of marriage, so I don’t think god would take that away. At the same time, part of me wonders if it will just not be done simply because sex pleases the flesh full body and we won’t have that with us in heaven so we will have higher desires possibly, OR just true satisfaction and contentment. No more longing or sorrow.

Desire is this unquenchable thirst. It’s a madness at times but it keeps the flesh alive and going. It also keeps people productive literally in work and in physical offspring, but in heaven we won’t need desire to keep us productive and going. It won’t be a “slave driver,” it will be us fully in control.

Full self control. Full happiness. Etc, etc.

BUT to swing it around- the gift is a gift. Perhaps a gift to gods children in flesh form- like caterpillars, but when in new bodies and in the new earth we will receive more, better, and newer gifts.

Maybe a new gift will replace and surpass this one you talk of, and only your new body can partake and behold it. It will also be the one that replaces sex for the partners who made promise to each other, so it will be one for you and your partner to share in heaven. Among the other gifts god would bestow to us.

Heaven itself is a true gift many cannot understand. It is one he gives to us along with his son to save us, but we don’t even understand them fully 😂. How could we begin to understand the other ones?

Even if we can try to imagine we can’t comprehend how good it will be or is because it doesn’t affect these bodies much. Our body doesn’t recognize heaven our body recognizes sex. Our body will NEVER enter heaven. It lives for here, so we have to live with heaven in mind.

This is all just my theory and vague recollection on my own upbringing and hearing sermon preaching and reading some of the Bible myself, but I don’t necessarily believe in all of this today. I just try to follow the logic and timeline of it.

I think was Jesus symbolized and invoked is truly special. I think also the whole bible was a beautifully written thing. It’s best not to mess with it and the story and follow the logic of it when reading and breaking it down piece by piece, but it’s certainly not a core belief for me or how I spend my days/ live my life.

I enjoy the logic I just don’t take it seriously. That’s just me personally.

Depends on which branch of christianity you ask. As I understand it in the general christian “canon” of their mythology, when you die you are no longer human but an angel freed of their mortal vices, I imagine this includes lust and sex. The implication is you kind of lose your will to do so in Heaven because you won’t be human anymore and, as a result, sex or anything deemed sinful doesn’t really happen. It’s mostly just an eternity praising God and being fine with that.

You need your body in order to have sex. When we die, the soul departs the body and goes either to Heaven or Hell. They will be reunited at the Final Judgment (1 Corinthians 15.35-57; verse 52 especially). Beyond the body, sex has three parts: 1) Anticipation and desire, 2) the act itself, and 3) fulfillment. Obviously, being without a body makes all three of those impossible for sex in Heaven.

Then, add on that Jesus said that some people renounce marriage for the sake of the Kingdom of Heaven (Matthew 20.12). If they renounce marriage, then that includes sex. Essentially, marriage is lesser way of life than celibacy (this DOES NOT mean marriage is bad at all, just that celibacy is a greater good). Furthermore, two chapters later, He also says that "in the resurrection, they neither marry nor are given in marriage". Effectively, the marriage bond no longer exists in Heaven; it ends only at the death of one spouse.

Lastly though, if God is the Alpha and the Omega and there is no one higher or greater than He, then the three parts of sex I mentioned earlier are infinitely exceeded by being in the presence of God, or being in what Catholics call the Beatific Vision. Sex, in its proper context, which is and only can be marriage, is a means to an end.

To make my answer complete, let me begin by stating an Islamic teaching that faithful men will be rewarded with 72 virgins (disputed teaching) or others say at least 2 wives in the heavens. (This implies sex in heavens in the Quran.)

Someone already mentioned Jesus words that there's no marriage in heavens. (This opposite teaching shows that there's no marriage in heavens hence no sex.)

Another Bible incident is the pre-flood acts of (fallen) angels who came to earth, materialised and then have sex with women, giving birth to the Naphelims. (This sinful act showstgat there's no sex in heavens.)

Another Bible teaching is, the marriage arrangement ends with death, thus allowing surviving spouse to remarry. (This again shows that there's no marriage thus no sex in heavens).

Finally, sex is the physical act of thrusting a penis in and out a vagina with the possibility of copulating. This means, when the physical body cease to exist, sex becomes impossible. Hence no sex in heavens.

The Bible shows there are two resurrections. The first is for a small group who will be taken to heaven to rule with Christ (Revelation 20:6). These are raised as spirit beings like the angels, and Jesus said that such ones “neither marry nor are given in marriage” (Matthew 22:30), so they will not have sex or physical pleasures like food.

The second resurrection is the general resurrection to life on earth (John 5:28-29). These will be brought back as humans, able to enjoy all the good things God created for mankind, including food, family life, and marriage, as originally intended in the Garden of Eden.

No. There is nothing physical in heaven so there's no need for sex. Sex is for procreation to carry on human genes and DNA. You can't do that if you're a spirit or made of light.

The food you eat in heaven doesn't nourish a body nor does it satisfy hunger. There is no bodily functions and the food you eat is just the illusion of taste and smell you would have enjoyed being physical.

The Bible explains that in the Beginning God Created everything.
And then, created the man and woman.
And gave them the order to be “fruitful and multiply”.

So, Sex was one of the very first things God established on earth. The difference between humans and the rest of the creation (with some exceptions) is that it’s pleasant.

So, the purpose of sex is to reproduce with the gift of pleasure.

But,…. In heaven, and according to the Bible, humanity will be over there temporarily for 1000 years. So, there won’t be the need to reproduce.
However, it continues saying that after that period, the humanity will come back to a renewed Earth, and resume the original plan of: “be fruitful and reproduce”.
