Single Mother Killed in Carjacking Attempt, Two Teenagers Arrested

Two teenagers were apprehended on Wednesday in connection with the fatal carjacking of an Ohio single mother, who was hit by her own vehicle as she attempted to prevent the theft while her young child was in the backseat, according to police reports. One of the arrested individuals, 16-year-old Ray-Yon Hawkins, reportedly confessed to hitting Alexa Stakely, 29, with the Honda SUV in a state of panic after attempting to steal it with a few friends earlier this month.

Stakely, a single mother, suffered a fatal head injury when she was struck by the vehicle. The group of teenagers abandoned the car nearby and fled the scene on foot, according to the Columbus police. Hawkins, accompanied by his parents, surrendered himself at the police station on Wednesday.

According to police reports, Hawkins and two others were in search of a vehicle to steal when they spotted Stakely’s Honda. Hawkins entered the vehicle and was about to drive away when Stakely appeared in front of the car. In a state of panic, Hawkins drove off, hitting Stakely with her own vehicle.

A second 16-year-old suspect was arrested hours after Hawkins’ arrest. Both teenagers are facing murder charges. The identity of the second suspect has not been disclosed, but police reports indicate that he confessed to being present during the attempted theft of Stakely’s SUV.

Prior to the tragic incident, Stakely had placed her sleeping 6-year-old child in the car, but had to return to the babysitter’s home after forgetting an item. Upon her return, she saw the SUV backing out onto the road and heard her child screaming.

Stakely was rushed to a local hospital in critical condition and later succumbed to her injuries. Her child was unharmed. Stakely, an Ohio State University graduate, worked as a speech and language pathologist in a local school district and also held a second job as a waitress to support her child.

I was a single Mom and yes, there were times when it would have been easier to just leave my son in the car to run in real fast to pay for gas or get milk at the convenience store, but something always told me in my gut "Take him with me". So I never left him alone in the car ever!

It's not a sugarcoated book. Humans are inherently evil, no matter what time frame in history you look at. We think we're paragons of virtue in the modern age, but we just outsource it more: for example, America has killed millions of unborn children like barbaric savages, killed millions of brown people in the middle east, and practice modern day slavery for our latest iPhones.

That being said, we all in the west benefit greatly from judeo-christian laws. Even Richard Dawkins calls himself a "cultural christian" now. Realizing that morality rests on a foundation of Christian thinking, not "the law of the jungle" or whatever. by the way, human sacrifice happens in the Bible but is never condoned. Many of the examples you used were only for the Jewish people in that historic time, you don't go from 0-100 in one or two generations. To look at modern morality standards, you should check out the New Testament.

Too long to read all this. People got to be dumb to not see that the bible is esotericism. Easiest to explain is the portion known as "astrotheology" but there's a flood of esotericism more throughout the entire book.

The witch hunts and all, is what created some of the books in the bible. Religion had its time to be the law of the land, we called it the dark ages. It was the pinnacle of Christian power and the government was as close to a theocracy as the monarchy would allow (meaning if you were the wrong kind of christian, you went to jail) and crime didn’t go down. The ten commandments, while a generally good list of do’s and don’ts for most people, is not powerful enough to stop the truly desperate from committing crimes if they see it as the only way to move ahead. With exception to hate crimes and sex crimes, all criminal acts can be linked to external factors as causes, mainly financial struggles. The ten commandments doesn’t change the status quo or make the rich generous to the needy, it doesn’t tell people to be kind. It just tells you “hey, I’m the only god you should worship. And also maybe don’t kill, or steal, or lie, or cheat on your partner, or be envious of someone else’s house. And do as your parents tell you.” If someone was desperate, truly desperate, living by the ten commandments doesn’t change the fact that the system they live in won’t help them.

that tragedy has been a long time coming and sad for the child... can you imagine the trauma that kid experienced and has to live with? the mom was trying to care for her child and 3 thugs ruined their lives, for nothing.

I read the continual reports over last few years in that amazing city of Columbus where kids steal cars, crash them, and are re-released... over and over. It was a game. failure to enforce the laws and sufficiently punish people because they are usually _________ color meant it was only a matter of time until something tragic happened. It has, and I doubt even that is enough to tilt the game towards a better reality.

So pray and support the victims, avoid the criminals, pay the higher insurance premiums, and hope it it isn't you. I've already thought about how Id handle such situations and everyone should.
