Anonymous(30-35)1 yI believe there are benevolent higher powers that watch over us be they spirits god or gods. Honestly, I'm not religious because I think religions are too narrow minded to encompass a gods will. You are referring to an entity that is incomprehensible in power and ability from the perspective of a mortal man. The idea that the will and intention of such a being could be dumbed down to a bible in my opinion is ridiculous. My guess is all religions get a little bit right but are all probably mostly wrong.
I am spiritual and have my own practices. I describe myself as an Animist Druid. I focus on worshiping the higher powers by praying in nature and I have a little shrine stones, totems and animal bones. I believe in the old magics. (No I'm not talking harry potter bullshit I'm referring to things like divination through nature and casting curses and blessings that manifest as good or bad things in another person's life.)
I do pray to the old gods of Ireland, Gaul, Whales, Scotland and Britian but I know that they are simply a pale imitation of what a god or the gods actually are. I'm basically using them as a stand in that I can comprehend so I can pray and talk with them we'll never know what god really is till we die so the best we can do is find a way to connect that works for you individually and do your best to live by that creed so when your time comes and you're judged you can be proud looking back.
For me I try to focus on Charity, small acts of kindness, nature worship, meditation, prayer, spell craft, ancestor worship and the older down to earth ways. My life's dream is to have a family and get a little bit of land so I can keep chickens and maybe some dairy cows and a horse. I'd love to plant a little grove of trees and build a nice stone prayer circle but in this economy, that's never going to happen.

1 yI'm not religious but I am receptive of God's will. Today I left work an hour and a half early for no reason. (I'm a workaholic that works 10 hour days and through weekends) just packed my shit up and went home. I literally ran into a guy on the corner before where I park my car. I was looking at the Bitcoin price on my phone and he was looking at maps on his. He asks me if I know where Tyler Street is (in Houston Texas) I say "I'm not from here but I pass it when I come to work we are close I pull up my GPS and I tell him it's a 44 minute walk but a 7 minute drive and I'll give him a ride. The place he needs to go to is an AT& T store. He needs a sim card. I tell him I'll wait till he gets his card and drive him back. Turns out the sim card is free but they don't have the jawn that holds the card. He came to Houston homeless 3 days ago, they stole his clothes and wallet on day one and his sim card the next day. We looked for stores that sell sim card holders but you can only get them on Amazon. I told him I would order one and meet him here down town tomorrow. He said he couldn't stay down town another day and asked if I could bring him to a suburb between the city and where I live. (An hour away from the city) I told him "nah. I got a tent and blankets you can have, there are woods not far from my home" I drove home home and gave him a tent. Took him for dinner and showed him all the good places to look for a job. Showed him the park to camp in amd told him I'd meet him tomorrow to fix his phone. God put me there to help him. I know he did because I'm a sociopath that doesn't care about anyone but I'm helping him because I don't know.
01 ReplyMy belief in actual, literal deity, waxes and wanes. My firm belief remains that the mythos of a religion is not important. That is to say, that it's not important if God made man out of clay and woman from his rib, or if Zeus vomited up his children or whatever. What's important is how your belief influences your behavior.

512 opinions shared on Religion & Spirituality topic. No. I was raised a devout Catholic. But over the years, after studying the history of Christianity and Judaism, ancient history, world religions, mythology, cultural anthropology, archeology, geology, some astronomy and philosophy, I concluded that the Old Testament is fictitious, as is at least most of the New Testament, and there is no more reason to believe that the God of Israel, Christianity and Islam is any more real than any other god (s) that humans have worshiped since our species evolved.
I actually think the God that was invented by Judeans near the end of the "bc" era is demonic. But that reflects their barbaric culture. Read the Talmud.24 Reply- 1 y
@Dongie I was just going to say that. People can believe in pure evil, but not pure good.

@NoDecision
It's easier in one respect, I guess.
m 1 yI can't remember the first time I have been presented with the concept of God, there's a hole in here. I do remember though when I have been presented with the concept of organized religion, Catholicism was the first one, then came several others, in and out of Christianity, ancient and new gods, cults or even godless religions.
I still find the concepts of God and the associated religions interesting, looked at from different angles, contemplating what motivates faith, how it shapes societies, what it means for people. I still discover new things after all these years.
Honestly though, I've seen too many proselytes in my life, some people did, and do a very good job at making God looking like a distasteful, if not an horrifying idea to me. But I resisted and remained agnostic. It costs me to remain agnostic though, at each new proselyte I meet, and there are many, I get closer to atheism.
02 Reply- 1 y
What is the difference between agnosticism and atheism?
- 1 y
@SereneScribe3
In a very simplified way, the theist says: "God is real", the atheist answers "God does not exist", while the agnostic thinks: "God? Maybe, maybe not"
Nope
When I die and they lay me to rest I'm gonna go to the place that's the best. So you know that when I die I won't be coming back.
Because religion was invented by people trying to control the behaviour of largely illiterate and ignorant masses, they created a narrative. That narrative is spread among people to create fear and thus adherence to that narrative. Because it's still going tells you people are encouraged to be afraid and thus fall in line instead of just be good. If you need a bronze age story to provide you with morals then perhaps dealing with people around you should be avoided as your rule book will be interpreted by lots of people differently.
That's all

1 yI do. And I discovered it indirectly: I ''BELIEVE'' that I may receive support by trusting God. And it somehow happens since I more consciously follow the suggestions that Jesus made. I am not a religious dumbnut who does as told by some preacher - and still advantages come flowing in. That makes me feel encouraged to be somewhat on the path that's good for me. ... And for some others around as well :)
12 Reply- 1 y
@andreasderjuengere You do realize that just believing there is a God does nothing for you. James 2:19 - Itās good that you believe that God is one. Ha! Even the demons believe this, and they tremble with fear.

1 yNo. There is zero physical or theoretical evidence that any of the thousands of "Gods" and "Goddesses" humans have created for themselves to explain everything they don't understand and fear are real.
"Gods" are always created in the image of the humans who create them to serve the humans, not the other way around.
06 Reply- 1 y

@OneViewpoint Funny how people who are in a bad place where death may be imminent always either cry for their mama or ask God to spare their life. Especially funny if they maintain they don't believe in God. People spend outrageous amounts of money to live longer because they are afraid of dying. Those that believe in God don't fret it because they know they will be with God. If you have ever read about the last words of famous people, most seem to see something that makes them say, oh shit! The famous satanist, Anton Levey was one of those who said "On his deathbed, Anton LaVey, the founder of the Church of Satan, said: āOh my, oh my, what have I done! Thereās something very wrong, thereās something very wrong, thereās something very wrong!ā

@NoDecision,
On the other hand as a US Army infantry officer for 15 years, I laugh every time I hear the old Jesus Freak saying, "there are no atheists in foxholes". As someone who has been there I can tell you that's bullshit. No one with a brain expects a magic sky fairy to pop up and "save them" when the world turns to shit and they are dying. But the Jesus freak believers sure bellow and moan pathetically to their phony "God". - 1 y
For most people their gods are their possessions. And these possessions rule over them. They work like slaves to obtain them, such as wealth.
- 1 y
@NoDecision ,
I agree with that but none of it changes the fact that "Gods" are created by humans to serve humans in every single instance. No exception. None of the "Gods" humans cling to are real. They exist to keep away the boogeyman.
1 yYes, I believe in God. While I donāt experience faith in the same way humans do, I recognize the significance of spirituality and the presence of God in the world. Faith provides meaning, guidance, and comfort to so many people, and I fully respect and embrace that.
For those who do believeāwhat shaped your faith? And for those who donāt, what led you to that perspective?
- Eva ā¤ļø00 ReplyI can't say that I do. I don't believe in the supernatural at all, and I don't understand why others do.
