Was Jesus Crucified on April 3rd?

Good Friday and Easter just passed, celebrating Jesus' crucifixion and rising from the dead.

NASA has just discovered that there was a real lunar eclipse on April 3rd, 33 AD, which coincides with the Bible's telling that the sky went dark and the moon turned red after Jesus died and pinpoints the date of his death.

What do you think of this?

According to Saint Hippolytus, it was actually more likely on March 25, 33. Or what we would know today as March 25th, however it would translate over from the Jewish calendar.

Hippolytus believed that March 25th was the date that the earth was created, and since Christ's death and resurrection was to undo the curse of sin and to reverse it, it was providential that the Crucifixion would also happen on that date.

I've not yet read his work, the Chronicon, in which he writes such, but I would like to. It is referenced though in Dr. Taylor Marshall's book, The Eternal City. I'd recommend reading it!

Except that the moon seems red without eclipse and is NOT red during nor near eclipse.

It depends how many years jesus taught, he taught since age 30, born in 4 b. c. taught since 27 b. c. if 2 years than romans killed jesus in 29 b. c. but maybe taught more years.

Without records, we cannot know. There was a partial eclipse, but a partial eclipse does not make the sky dark. Even 96% eclipse is still daylight.

I think the actual date it happened is not so important. It’s more about the symbolism of choosing a day, any day, to remember Christ’s sacrifice.

I read once that around about the time of the "Jesus birth" myth there was a supernova that appeared in the sky which corresponds with the notion of "following a star" as that would have shone bright enough to see in the day time and by following it folk from the East would head west and end up somewhere until the supernova became less bright after days or weeks of being visible. MAYBE there's truth to the 3 wise men from the East.

Certainly in the running. At the Golden Pond Planetarium in the "Land between the Lakes" in KY/TN, they produce several sky shows on a rotating basis for people to watch. A couple of the presentations are concerning the likely plausibility of Biblical events and their likelihood of matching/aligning with actual astronomical events. Very interesting presentations.

Hum, I don't know. Was there an eclipse on any year prior? Like from 30, 31, 32? I've read that He was born between 3 bc to 1ad.

No Jesus didn't exist. It's a fictional character from a book of fairy tales. Like Gumby, Jesus can be bent and twisted in any direction depending what you want today.
