7 moI think someone else asked a similar question recently. No, I don't think we humans are evolved for immortality. It sounds appealing at first look. No one (well few) look forward to the finality of death. But there would have to be conditions, wouldn't there.
- I'd want to age to about say, 21 years old and then stop aging. Not 2 years old and not 100 years old.
- I'd want to remain in peak physical condition, not saddled with every disease that plagues humanity.
- I want to remain in peak mental condition, not degenerate into a drooling mess for a million years.
So let's say we get the basic handshake with the Devil ironed out. Wait a minute, I still have a problem.
- So am I the only immortal?
- Will I have to watch everyone I know and love age out and die for eternity?
- Or is everyone immortal now? Fucking place is gonna get crowded!
But OK, lets say there are 10 million immortals. That should be enough variety right? Wait a minute, I still have a problem.
- What happens in a 100 million years when I've learned all there is to learn about the universe? When I've heard all the music? Read all the literature? Tasted every food? Fucked 1,000,000,000 times?
- What happens if I want to die and I find out I can't die? Do I get an escape clause?
OK, I'm ready to shake the Devil's hand. But I still think the human mind is not built for an infinite time scale. I think I'll go insane and use the escape clause in less than 1,000 years.

7 moI would, if I still get to choose when I die. I just want to be able to achieve what I want in my life. Write my book or books, create my business idea, find love, build my own off grid self sustained house, renovate my own campervan, and help support my family. After I've achieved those goals and lived out my days until I'm old and content with what I've done in my life, I'd be good to go.

Immortality sounds tempting, until u realize eternity means watching everything u love fade while u remain unchanged..
I don’t crave forever, I crave meaning..
Let my mortality give weight to my choices, fire to my love, n depth to my existence..
Cause it’s the ending that makes every moment sacred..20 Reply- 539 opinions shared on Religion & Spirituality topic.
7 moOnly partially. I don’t want to live forever and witness the heat death of the universe in however many quadrillion-someodd years. Being ageless and living a long while sounds like it could be fun, but I still want the option to opt out after a few hundred years and let my life end.

7 moNot really. It would be really sad when everyone I know dies and I have to find new friends, who again will die in a never-ending cycle.
Some would say we humans ARE immortal... because our soul lives on after we die.
I must admit, I'm not convinced of that. I think we live on in our descendants, our children, our children's children, etc. which kind of makes us immortal, doesn't it?

7 moImmortality seems kinda scary honestly.
Like what if I'm immortal, and the world ends, but I can't die, so it's just me wandering around the barren wasteland of Earth, and there's no breathable air, and it's two hundred degrees, and I'm in constant agony, but I have no way to escape?
Immortality might not be as great as a lot of people think.
10 ReplyYES!..
100% it will be a very Painful Miserable state to be in, but if I get to be I will choose to me.
Once, I am "Immortal" , I will declare myself as an example to be Witnessed by the world to see how I will Suffer the Pain of my Miseries but, will not find peace of Death..
My sufferings and Pain as I go Mad with time, would make the World Realise how Important Death is!

7 moEternity is long af, you would inevitably get bored and trapped in a prison of never-ending time. If a catastrophic event happens then, what, you just float around for billions of years until you happen upon a habitable planet? Not for me.

7 moWhat are the specifics? Immortal as I am now so I can watch everyone I love die off for endless generations till the sun expands and comsumes the planet and I get to float forver in space with only my thoughts? That sounds like Hell.
10 Reply 3.4K opinions shared on Religion & Spirituality topic. Nope. I want to die at some point. Only way I'd agree to immortality, is if my memory was wiped or I was given powers to control reality.
10 ReplyIt would be interesting to see how humanity changed through the ages but probably get sad and want to move on.
