Ever been or heard of an atheist burial?

My friend's grandma passed away just recently and they're coordinating her burial/funeral services but it's going to be non-religious. When she was alive, she made it clear about not wanting anything to do with god and religion at all. She was hardcore atheist all the way to her deathbed.

Ever been or heard of atheist burial/funerals? What are they like?

Uuummm... maybe? A friend from my high school youth group got engaged, but then the guy had a heart attack and died. He was not very religious, and at that point I don't think my old friend particularly was either (still don't know where she is with the Church; I haven't seen her for a while). I do believe there was a priest at the funeral home though, and her brother was also studying for the priesthood at that point.

Not exactly but i heard of secular weddings, with poems insted of god. I guess bury ceremony needs options too.

In japan people start being budhist when a relative dies and they call the monk to bury... so i can see a demand for secular ceremony.

They’re normal burials, everyone who knew them gets to say something if they want to, if there’s a speaker their religious status is irrelevant as long as religion is not mentioned.

Yeah, they just put the person in the bin to recycle. Much like their beliefs and life in general.
