While the person sharing wasn't superstitious.

I heard some people use rent to trick women into human trafficking and forced domestic labour. It’s why I would never rent a very cheap and shared space that is lower than the normal market price range. It might seem like a money and domestic labour saver, but you are putting your life at risk.
Some people under price to attract people into a bidding war.
Some people have policies on the house that make getting someone in at any price is better than leaving it unoccupied.
I know one guy who's father rented his house out really cheap to tank its value to reduce the inheritance tax the kids would pay.
some people might just need the money...
or, not really need the money but for someone to get the plane running and squatters free...

Not necessarily, but go look at the property. We managed to get a below-market flat in Seattle and have been there ten years.
Could be a scam or an issue... I know a few landlords who rent at below market rates because they paid cash for their properties and only view them as a pension fund
Just ask to read the rental agreement. If they won't let you read it, do not rent the apartment.
Yes, it usually means there is a problem. Same thing with buying real estate.
It’s a catch. The guy wants action from you.
Be careful, a lot of this stuff is just scams.
