A cross in a Christian house who doesn't practice or believe it is hypocritical. It's not dumb... a real atheist wouldn't care and may just find it asthetically pleasing. Not to be mistaken with so called atheiests that are actually anti-God because they really do believe in God. The difference can be subtle. One just doesn't believe God exists, and the other actually hates God...

Not really. Lacking a religion doesn't mean you can't decorate how you want and doesn't dictate your spiritual beliefs

The cross is a pagan/ occult symbol that’s been an existence thousands a year before Jesus was crucified on a cross. The symbolism has been used all through all types of different European cultures so there’s all types of reasons some one would have a cross on the wall.

The cross is such a loaded symbol that I would have a hard time forgetting what's associated with it. If I wasn't living on a continent historically rooted in Christianity then I could see things differently... I don't know, maybe if I was born in Japan then I could look at the cross as more of a blank slate? Even as something stylish, exotic? Which would be compatible with atheism

Yes but, I'm also a sentimentalist and, as this used to be grandma's house and she had a few crosses on the walls, I decided to leave them right where she left them. Had it not been for that, I would've taken them down and pitched them years ago.
What's the point of the cross, anyway? Why don't people have a Manliker Carcano (sp?) on their wall to remember JFK's murder, too?

It wouldn’t be dumb. It would be pointless. However if they share the household with someone who follows a religious path then it might not even bother the person who’s atheist.
Like all beliefs there are nice ones and there are asshole atheists.

Not necessarily. For example I'm Greek Orthodox and not a Protestant but I still inherited a number of religious items from my Protestant grandfather when he passed. I imagine there are plenty of atheists who would feel the same in that kind of a situation.

No, it could just be an art object or you admire Christianity on an ideological level. Atheism isn't an ideology it's just a description of someone who has no belief in a deity.

Yes it's dumb, because an atheist doesn't believe in jesus nor does he believe in a god, so having a religion symbol hanging on your wall is weird!!
