What proof is there to support the idea that God is a man?

God is not a man. The closest written words that we have which can even be roughly interpreted to suggest as much include “Let us make man in Our image”. This is most widely thought to mean that humanity would generally appear as God does. Which is to say, humanoid.
Furthermore, God is often referred to as “father”. Similarly, this is likely a reflection of the time. Fathers were once the heads of their families and households. They provided and protected, made and enforced the rules, and they doled out the rewards and punishments. This is the role that followers give God. They trust that their loving relationship with Him will shelter and reward them in much the same manner as a good father does. If Christianity had been born in the modern age, the bible would most likely be written to suggest that God is mother, as most households are run by women now.
This isn’t “proof” that “God is a man”, or even ‘male’, and anyone who suggests otherwise is ignorant or lying. In fact, i like to lean heavily on the multiple verses of the bible that strongly suggest that we may know of God, but we cannot know him completely. His being is literally incomprehensible to our mortal minds. Therefore, anyone who claims to hold the only true understanding of the word of God is full of sh*t. I’ve read multiple versions of the Christian bible. They are typically more alike than different, but they are still noticeably different. Beyond those differences you can get into various interpretations of any given edition. There are plenty of completely wrong “interpretations” of the bible and word of God though. The ignorant, hateful and prideful minds of atheists and egotists often propose that their interpretations are proof that believers are ignorant or brainwashed. I suspect more than slightly that you are among them. Your attempts to tear down others’ faith is never going to fulfill you. With more than a little earnestness, finding your own faith will.

there's no proof any god exists in the first place. so that makes the question for the gender quite pointless. existence is what you should worry about first before trying to figure out gender. also there's another aspect to it. "if" a god existed, why would god need gender? is he procreating like humans are? does that mean he's mortal? so does he then qualify as "god"?

Because Yahweh is stated to be male. He did have wife named Asherah that was mostly written out of the Christian version of the old testament. The new testament God in my opinion is not Yahweh but probably Yahweh's father El. There are other gods in the old testament but most were said to be defeated by Yahweh.

What I'm saying is the Jewish elders who created the old testament were all male. The jews are a very patriarch society they pretty much hated women so why would they ever worship a female god? So they made god Yahweh male.
