How do religious believers justify “the Lord giveth and taketh away”?

Not being a person of faith, I of course do not, but that said, I cannot believe that many others do believe that. My belief is that religion and 'believer's that are very hard core, have done more harm to society than good. My religious friends express fears as to where I will 'spend eternity', and I have told them not to fear for me.

With all of that said, I would be a complete fool for NOT believing, if religious dogma did not present me with so many things that do not make sense. If they DID MAKE sense, I would be a firm believer and would follow all church doctrine to the hilt.

I watched a film where a wife lost her child in childbirth, and the father said: "It was just not God's will" For me, that is just insane, and one of the reasons I wrote this piece to ask the question.

Very few believers actually believe that God specifically makes everything, large or small, good or bad, happen. If that were true it would make God the author of all evil, and also mean that we as humans have no say and therefore no responsibility over what we do.

But I don't believe that. Most believers don't if you really quiz them on it. Yes the Lord gives and takes away. So do parents. But just as is with parents, not everything that is given is given by God, and not everything that is taken is taken by God. Unfortunately the sects of Christians who believed that God orchestrates everything does keep popping up, and they tend to be the ones who want to be pastors. And that is where most people get those little catchphrases like "it wasn't God's will". I think most people who say that don't even realize the depth of the meaning behind those words.

We bring nothing into the world and can take nothing out. Any logical person who has seen someone die knows that all of their worldly processions stay in creation here with the remaining of us and are typically split up among the heirs and such items eventually break and decay with time and erode into dust. The irony. God's purpose for each of his creations is not for them to decide. And yet, the child that died "prematurely" served a purpose of bringing you to a place of questioning God's existence. Seems like God's purpose for that child is doing exactly what was intended.
