In Matthew 6, does “money” symbolize ego, idolatry, and false loyalties?

The bible says you cannot serve both God and money, and I don't think many believers realize that the money represents both greed and also the ego, and the idolatrous values and false loyalties of our commercialized and status driven world.

I have met pious believers who gave 100% of their efforts to God and are more corrupt than thieves in state prisons, because they tried to worship their God and their ego at the same time, you cannot worship your God and your ego at the same time, if you do, your worship of God will make you more demonic than those who do satanic sorcery, worshiping God involves slowly letting your ego die and casting it aside so that it does not interfere with your religious beliefs.
