Why do you personally believe God exists, and what shaped that faith?

🙏 Why Do You Believe God Exists?

This is something I've been genuinely curious about, and I'd love to hear different perspectives.

For those of you who believe in God, what convinced you? Was it a personal experience, something that happened in your life, your upbringing, answered prayers, the beauty and complexity of nature, or something else entirely?

And if you've ever questioned your faith or gone through a period of doubt, what brought you back—or what made you see things differently?

This isn't meant to start an argument or debate. I'm simply interested in hearing the reasons behind people's beliefs and learning from different experiences.

Well for starters because my mother, father, and one of my sisters are deceased. So i can't bear the thought of never seeing them again. But i know that isn't a good argument for God's existence.

First off i have an analytical mind. And to me there's just more evidence for God's existence then his abscence. The very nature of the universe suggests there's an intelligent design behind it. I love how people can get very scientific and talk about the Big Bang. But not talk about all that came after it. For example, gravity. If gravity had been a little bit stronger or a little bit weaker. Stars would not form they would not create heavier elements like they do. They would not explode and seed the cosmos with the very elements that make up your human body. And that's one of only a 1000 examples. You can explain it away as chance. But that's the same odds as taking 55 "6" sided dice and rolling them and them all landing 6's on 1 roll. Those kinds of odds just don't happen by chance.

Now if we step away from the mathematical. I believe God exists because Jesus Christ just makes sense to me. God only asks that you have faith in him (that he died for your sins). God is infallible. Everything God does is for a reason. We try to make sense of God with out feeble human brains and that is our undoing. Why bad things happen to us. God sees everything. GOD exists outside of time. To God past, present, and future are simoultaneous. God seeks a close relationship with us. And the only way we can do that is by trusting him. As time goes by and by being faithful we grow a greater understanding of why are path is the way it is and how it intersects with others. It's not about living an easy rewarding life (even though of course everyone wants that). That is not how character is built. Sometimes your character in the face of adversity is a beacon for others to follow.

And lastly there's the "miracle" factor. The things that should just not happen, yet they do. Now can you explain away a miracle. Of course! That's not the point. Again we're going back to odds here. My sister was put into medically induced coma. With the length of time she was in it and fluctuations she had in her blood pressure while she was in it she should have sustained SIGNIFICANT brain damage. And she did sustain some. She did have seizures afterward. Her personality was affected by it. But otherwise you wouldn't have known she had been in a coma. 5 years. later she went back to the hospital and once again looked like she was going through the same ordeal. But instead her heart stopped and the could not revive her. Now i know you're going to ask, "how is this a miracle"? There's no doubt in my mind God wanted to take her the first time. But she had so many people praying for her to pull through i believe God gave her back to us. Not unscathed, but in good enough mental health for us to say goodbye. My sister had been chronically ill her whole life. She was still able to get married, adopt a child, see her through to adulthood. And i think God didn't want to see her in pain anymore. I think it broke Gods heart to separate us. But her time on this plane of existence had served it's purpose. We will see eachother again one day. And my sister will have a glorified body in christ. Untouched by pain or disease and undimmed by this worlds tears. It will be a glorious day to see her like that.🥹

It is just the order i heard stuff. First i believed in tooth fairy and god. Then i found out: no tooth fairy. Later when i heard the alternative to god is "random" but we observe a world not random. Interactions of trees with bees. Interaction of algea oxygen with mammals. The cycle we breathe to feed trees while also trees breathe that! so we can breathe (or ancient algea).

I was curious of various science guesses. It is a shame they are so self contradictory. or implausible crap. You need stronger blinder faith than a catholic , just to believe that "physics" fraud bs. See one of many examples at link

Is really hard for me to describe of put it into words. I believe in God since I was a child and the moment I learned how to pray God always answers. When I go to mass I can feel the Holy Spirit, sometimes I get extremely emotional with how powerful it is. When I go through challenges in life I can always feel God's presence reassuring me. I know for those who don't have faith or do not believe in God all this may sound like BS but I'm not here to prove anything or convince you how real it feels to me. This is what I believe and experienced in life.

I was raised in the Catholic faith and I began to pursue it on my own around this time in 2004.

As for what has shaped it since then? Probably the biggest thing was when I began my catechism formation in 2019. One of the first things the basic course covered were some philosophical terms that, once I understood them (my poor best friend/roommate from college... he spent about three hours on video chat trying to help me grasp "substance" and "essence"...), some other first principles of philosophy I'd read about several years earlier started making more sense as well. After that, it just started making more sense for God to exist.

Yes but my definition of that god is the origin of love. I do think there's higher powers who nudge things from time to time, certain things happened in my life that are statistically effectively impossible. But for me god is a layer deeper than that. "God" may not even have made this world, it may have created the world that created this world or multiple layers beyond that. Just like god didn't create the world from your dream last night, you did.

"Exist" is the wrong term to use as it means "something with a beginning and end", God is beyond all that.  Hence your question is banal and moot.

I don't believe. Plus so many people purposely sin just to ask for forgiveness after the fact. You knew exactly what you were doing prior to doing it.
