There is a stereotype that men are more visual and usually have their minds made up with 30 seconds of meeting a woman if they are interested or not.

To a certain extent that’s true. If a girl is a 5 or below to me physically I am not going to be romantically interested no matter what her personality is. That doesn’t mean I won’t treat her respectfully and be friendly (if she’s got a cool personality). I won’t be rude if she happens to show me interest (will politely decline if need be) But I can’t develop feelings.

But I am thinking that many women are more superficial than ever nowadays when it comes to looks (except if they guy is rich and/or famous)

That’s not to say they shouldn’t have standards. I don’t expect a beautiful 22 yr old woman to not reject a chubby balding 35 yr old guy. But I notice that the less attractive a man is to a woman the more difficult, challenging and bitchy she will be to him.

I know this because I’m my 20s most women considered me a 8 to 9 physically. I’ve gotten older and while I am in great shape for my age the truth is most women see me around a 7 now. They are more difficult and rude in dating situations. They ghost more. I am held to a higher standard on my behavior on the first date.

I don’t expect everything to be willy nilly easy like it was when I was 25. But the fact that: “first impression (looks) = likeability = respect” is depressing.

I hate to say it but as man I usually have my mind made up within 30 seconds of meeting a woman of how physically attracted I am to her.

Emotional attraction does still weigh heavily into it though. She can be hot af but if I can’t stand her personality and/or she’s has no genuine interest in me I can move on. I can also move on a lot faster nowadays vs. when I was younger.

But the issue is often come across women I find that are 5’s or 6’s. They aren’t repugnant or anything but I don’t feel any butterfly’s in my stomach either. More often than not they really like me because while I am nice to them I also don’t bend over backwards for them either. I’m just as happy to be there or not be there. Either way is fine. So it’s easy to be myself.

But as a man I find that the ugly truth is I have never found myself growing in attraction for average looking women despite some of them having excellent personalities. I really have tried to “check myself” on this. Tell myself to look deeper. Tell myself to “grow up”. Feel guilty af about it.

But if tried to force myself to date and commit to average looking yet great personality girls in the past. It always ends in disaster. I quickly lose interest in sex and find myself having less patience about their problems. And I know that’s not fair at all.

Is it possible for a man to slowly fall in love with a woman he isn’t attracted to?

I am asking this because I have an opportunity to get married to an average looking girl who is outstanding in all other ways. She’s a very hard worker, respectful, excellent personality, moderate conservative, has no vices, etc. She’s also younger (27) yet mature and independent.

Yet she has a rather unattractive face and I feel Iike complete shit saying that. She’s was born with that those facial features and has zero control over them. I keep kicking myself not to judge that but it’s hard.

Women don’t really deserve them nor do they even want one.

I’m a good guy and I’ve been always been single. It’s almost like girls don’t care I exist.

Sure it’s hard to meet new people. I also have no bad physical or personality characteristics that are obvious upon meeting me. I look good.

I've been talking with this girl for about a year and we're finally going to meet in person next month. I know she likes vintage photography, and specifically 3D photography, so I want to buy her a camera, because I know she doesn't have one. We started as friends and have become more romantic with time.

Here's the problem; the right camera, the one she actually wants, is about $250-300. I can get a comparable camera for $50, but it's not exactly the right thing; it's kind of a starter camera into the style of photography she enjoys. Brands matter enough in a situation like this that I don't really want to compromise. I have enough money that I could spend the extra money without issue.

Now... I personally don't care about spending $300, but I know that a woman could easily see a gift like that as me trying to buy her affection. Buying the cheaper camera is nice and symbolic, but the fact it isn't exactly what she wants might make the whole thing counter productive.

Is buying her a gift on our first meeting a bad idea?
