I'm 27(will turn 28 later this year) and wasted my late teens and most of my 20s figuring out what I wanted to do with my life and made the mistake of giving myself a lot of debt with student loans. I've had off years in college getting new jobs for it to work out with my college schedule and if it's enough money to pay all the bills I currently pay. Now I'm 27 and only need one more year left to finish my undergraduate college degree and still live with parents. Pretty shameful and unideal life I currently live compared to those in their early 20s who've already accomplished far more in their lives than I ever have.

Parents would have new power over their kids' education under House GOP bill

House Speaker Kevin McCarthy and House Republicans on Thursday introduced The Parents Bill of Rights, which they say would give parents more insight and power into their children's education.

According to a breakdown of the bill from Rep. Julia Letlow, R-La., school districts would be publicly required to post curriculum information, provide parents with a copy of revisions to state education standards, provide parents with the list of books and reading materials available in the library and more.

"You have a say in your kids' education, not government and not telling you what to do," McCarthy said in his remarks.

Activists, parents and families from across the country gathered in the Rayburn Room to tout the new proposal alongside McCarthy, the House Republican Conference chair, Elise Stefanik, House Education and the Workforce Committee Chairwoman Virginia Foxx and others.

According to Letlow, parents must also be allowed to address their local school board on issues impacting their children's education and must be given a say when schools update privacy policies while schools should be encouraged to consider community feedback in decision making.

The bill would require parental consent before medical exams take place at school, "including mental health or substance use disorder screenings," and inform parents of violent activity at school.

Fox News Hosts Didn't Believe Election Fraud Claims, Court Filings Reveal

Hosts at Fox News had serious concerns about allegations of voter fraud in the 2020 presidential election being made by guests who were allies of former President Donald Trump, according to court filings in a $1.6 billion defamation lawsuit against the network.
“Sidney Powell is lying,” about having evidence for election fraud, Tucker Carlson told a producer about the attorney on Nov. 16, 2020, according to an excerpt from an exhibit that remains under seal.

The internal communication was included in a redacted summary judgment brief filed Thursday by attorneys for Dominion Voting Systems.
Carlson also referred to Powell in a text as an “unguided missile,” and “dangerous as hell.” Fellow host Laura Ingraham, meanwhile, told Carlson that Powell is “a complete nut. No one will work with her. Ditto with Rudy,” referring to former New York mayor and Trump supporter Rudy Giuliani.

Sean Hannity, meanwhile, said in a deposition “that whole narrative that Sidney was pushing, I did not believe it for one second,” according to Dominion’s filing.
Denver-based Dominion, which sells electronic voting hardware and software, is suing both Fox News and parent company Fox Corporation. Dominion said some Fox News employees deliberately amplified false claims that Dominion had changed votes in the 2020 election, and that Fox provided a platform for guests to make false and defamatory statements.

A GOP lawmaker wrote a one-sentence bill to abolish the Department of Education. His reasoning doesn't address student loans, grants, or any of the major things the department does.

It'll probably take more than one sentence to get rid of a federal agency — but one Republican lawmaker is trying that route anyway.

Last week, Kentucky Rep. Thomas Massie introduced a bill to abolish the Education Department, and it's a short, one-sentence read: "The Department of Education shall terminate on December 31, 2022."

When Insider asked Massie how abolishing the department would impact programs and laws that specifically rely on the department, he said that "unelected bureaucrats in Washington, D. C. should not be in charge of our children's intellectual and moral development."

"States and local communities are best positioned to shape curricula that meet the needs of their students. Schools should be accountable," he said. "Parents have the right to choose the most appropriate educational opportunity for their children, including home school, public school, or private school."

When Insider followed up regarding the impact eliminating the department would have on Pell Grants, student loans, and other financial aid operations, Massie's office did not respond.

Congress recently approved a $1.7 trillion budget for the government, including $79.6 billion for the Education Department. Of that funding, $45 billion is going to K-12 programs, with the majority allocated to grants for low-income neighborhoods and special-education programs, and about $30 billion is going to higher education and federal student aid funding, including loans and Pell Grants.

So if the department were to be eliminated, those programs would either be gone — or transferred to a new agency, which would preclude the budgetary savings that Republicans are hoping for.
