Indictment Brings Trump Story Full Circle

There was a time, not that long ago really, when Donald Trump said he cared about the sanctity of classified information. That, of course, was when his opponent was accused of jeopardizing it and it was a useful political weapon for Trump.

Throughout 2016, he castigated Hillary Clinton for using a private email server instead of a secure government one. “I’m going to enforce all laws concerning the protection of classified information,” he declared. “No one will be above the law.” Clinton’s cavalier handling of the sensitive information, he said, “disqualifies her from the presidency.”

Seven years later, Trump faces criminal charges for endangering national security by taking classified documents when he left the White House and refusing to return all of them even after being subpoenaed. Even in the what-goes-around-comes-around department of American politics, it is rather remarkable that the issue that helped propel Trump to the White House in the first place now threatens to ruin his chances of getting back there.

The indictment handed up by a federal grand jury at the request of special counsel Jack Smith effectively brings the Trump story full circle. “Lock her up,” the crowds at his campaign rallies chanted with his encouragement. Now he may be the one locked up if convicted on any of the seven reported counts that include conspiracy to obstruct justice and willful retention of documents.

This nation is in a very, very bad shape right now. People are deeply polarized; everything you do is expensive; and people have become more sensitive, reserved, and self-centered.

Neo-feminism has resulted in a lot of very lonely, single men. Sadly, I am one of those extremely lonely souls. It seems people don't want to meet or form friendships or relationships organically anymore. Online dating has destroyed the prospects for the average male, but it seems like the de-facto way of dating these days for my generation. In addition, with the uncertainties brought about by advancements in AI, international tensions, and so many issues domestically, I feel we are on the verge of societal collapse.

I have been losing more and more faith in humanity. Sometimes I feel I am living in the twilight zone. I was layed off recently, and since, I have barely left the house. Everything is too depressing. I have no motivation to work as I am burnt out, and I am tired of seeing all my peers I have known growing up get married and form families. It is incredibly difficult to make new friends as it is. Couple my social deficits with that, it feels like a nightmare.

Utah District Bans Bible In Elementary And Middle Schools

The Good Book is being treated like a bad book in Utah after a parent frustrated by efforts to ban materials from schools convinced a suburban district that some Bible verses were too vulgar or violent for younger children.

The 72,000-student Davis School District north of Salt Lake City removed the Bible from its elementary and middle schools while keeping it in high schools after a committee reviewed the scripture in response to a parental complaint. The district has removed other titles, including Sherman Alexie’s “The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian” and John Green’s “Looking for Alaska,” following a 2022 state law requiring districts to include parents in decisions over what constitutes “sensitive material.”

A district spokesperson, Chris Williams, said it doesn’t differentiate between requests to review books. The reviews are handled by a committee of made up of teachers, parents and administrators in the predominantly conservative community where most people are members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. The committee published its decision in an online database of review requests and did not elaborate on its reasoning or which passages of the Bible it found overly violent or vulgar.

The decision comes as conservative parent activists, including state-based chapters of the group Parents United, descend on school boards and statehouses throughout the United States, sowing alarm about how sex and violence are talked about in schools.

It’s unknown, however, who made the request for the Bible to be banned from Davis schools or if they are affiliated with any larger group. The district refused to provide the person’s identity, citing a school board privacy policy.
