If homosexuals where to marry this wouldn't change a damn thing since there is already homosexuals living together soo the only thing that will change is that they will have equal rights to marriage, geeze
Marriage = Man + Woman Why? Because they can reproduce and provide a proper environment for the child to be raised in. A child needs both a mom and a dad to develop.
If gays want to live together and have visitation rights, access to will etc. Than they can get a common law agreement. There are heterosexual couples that do it as well.
All this legislation will do is force the majority to be "politically correct" (which is a violation of free speech) and impose fines on businesses that do not wish to cater to this demographic. This will also infringe on people's religious freedoms which are guaranteed in the US constitution.
I hope the Supreme court doesn't pass this draconian law and that you don't have the same restrictions placed on you as we Canadians do. This would result in tyranny of the minority, protect your freedom. Don't let them take it away.
@Maverickj I know my response is late, I just saw your reply lol. Anyways the government isn't going to waste time checking who is fertile and who isn't so they are the exception.
I think it's ridiculous that people can hide behind a religion to discriminate minorities. That would not fly in my country. A restaurant denying gay people service? That's unacceptable!
Discrimination is discrimination. If the USA allows religious people to discriminate against the LGBTQPI community, than everyone should be able to do that to every minority groups in the country.
This is why religion is dangerous for a society: the fact that religious people feel that they can hide behind their religion to discriminate. Fucking hypocrites!
So you rather want the government be allowed to tell you what you can do?
If I have a business, it's my good choice who I want to serve and who don't. It's is my decrease of potential consumers on the base of my principles and the government shouldn't have the power to force me.
So as a business I should also be forced to let people in, who are unwashed, who have have a criminal record, who are on the list of sex-offenders in my neighborhood, etc? (Hint: I don't compare homosexuality to those. I just give examples of when business owners refuse to serve certain people)
It is my business and it is my right and freedom to choose who I serve and who I don't - even if it is discrimination. As long as I don't steer up other people to hate those people, do violent actions or humiliate them on purpose, it is my choice how I run my business the same way it is my choice what I do at my home and who I let in and who I don't.
That's what freedom is about and I will not accept it being taken away from me, because some people might feel emotionally hurt or offended by my views.
Yes. It can also be a restaurant putting on "Blacks only, no whites allowed", it can be bars and clubs only for homosexuals, it can be facilities with "Only women allowed".
So your argument failed when you attempted to put me into the racist stereotype of "Whites only, no black people allowed" since I turned your argument around and now you opt out of the argument. Good job. Very mature of you.
Let me ask you the following: - Would you force a bar/club only for homosexuals to let hetereosexuals in? - Would you force a women shelter to take in abused men? - Would you force the goverment to use affirmative actions on all demographics?
Honestly. Your argumentation can't win. You are either a hypocrite or want a totalitarian system.
Here is an idea though: Forcing people what to believe will not work. If you want genuine tolerance and acceptance, you will have to use something which doesn't involve force.
Gay clubs in my country are also visited by heterosexuals. There's no thing as non-heterosexuals not allowed culture. And yes women's shelters should take in abused men.
What's so hard to understand about not allowing discrimination in society? Is that such a hard concept for you to udnerstand?
That's what I mean that there's no point in discussing with someone who support discrimination and supports racism. We will never be on the same page on this. Ever!
You really have no idea about shelters and gay clubs it seems.
A lot of gays are incredibly annoyed by hetereosexuals, especially heterosexual women, swarming their club, having bachelor parties there, etc. A quick google-search will show you lots of stuff about it. Do they discriminate as well?
A lot of women shelters don't take in men for various reasons including to not force the battered women into unpleasant and triggering situations. Do they discriminate as well for doing it?
Additionally freedom, similar to democracy, does has its disadvantages, but the alternatives are way worse. Yes, discrimination can happen due to freedom - but I as long as those people don't actively harm whoever they dislike, then it is a necessary sacrifice for the greater good. The moment we abandon freedom, we are on a straight path back into dictatorship.
P. S. Telling someone in an interracial relationship he is racist doesn't exactly make you look too smart.
Nothing will happen. The world's not going to implode because a small percentage of the population can now get legally married. Same sex marriage has been legal natiowide in Canada for ten years now, and it hasn't affected the general population. People don't have to accept the law, but it's there and it's not going to go away.
Who is so negatively affected by this that it's disrupting their lives? There are bigger things happening both in your country and worldwide to worry about that are actually affecting people's lives, than same sex marriage. I only ever hear this kind of talk on the Internet and hardly ever in real life, but I also know Americans are more vocal about this issue.
I fail to see how two gay people getting a piece of paper for their relationship is worse than what they were doing before, which was just living together like any other relationship. If people are really bothered by it, then they need to step up to the plate and do something about it instead of just talking and complaining.
I know that people have been going crazy over this ever since Ireland, a staunchly Catholic country, voted in same sex marriage by referendum.
So umm... I'm a Satanist who just happens to be bisexual... My family is Mormon and my mothers side is catholic so I've seen several sides of the spectrum. Your point on infringing religious liberty is pretty much a bunch of bullshit considering how during every judicial proceeding you're asked to swear to the truth with a bible. Not to mention every slip of currency has "in god we trust" written on it. I doubt a country based off religious freedom will change anything religiously speaking because that would require rewriting everything for the country.
My country was one of the first countries to legalize gay marriage (I think it was the first one, but haven't checked) and those things didn't happen in my country either. We're still fine and not fucked up.
'Not yet'. You know for how long gay marriage is legal in the Netherlands? For quite a long time yeah. We're actually very tolerant towards gay people. I've never met a homophobe and nobody gets bullied for being gay. Isn't that what we want? People just being theirselves and nobody thinks it's weird.
I know you can get married if to someone of the samegender here in Canada and we have no issues on it at all. Love is love. I dislike how people pull religion into all of this. I believe in God, but I also believe he wants us to be happy and as long as it is not harming or disrespecting others than it is okay.
Whether it changes anything or nothing at all... it will only encourage more people to be gay. I have nothing against gay people... but to say the truth, the more propaganda there is on gays, the more gay people there will be. Too many people are open to new things especially if they see it as a common thing... Look at the places where there are more gay people, and it's the places who have tons and tons of propaganda. Just like anything else, that's what propaganda does.
Homosexuality is not a choice. "Propaganda" will not "turn" people gay. If anything, LGBT+ acceptance will encourage ALREADY GAY people to come out. It will not "turn" anyone.
You've got that completely wrong. There won't be more gay people, there will just be more people who are in denial, or fear for their life by being openly gay. Oppressing homosexuals doesn't make fewer of them, it just makes those that are, become too afraid to admit it. You don't just choose to be gay, you either are or you aren't, you can only choose to accept it or not.
There are in fact natural born gay people... but that does not imply that people cannot turn gay... they certainly can! and if you don't agree then you're too ignorant. Propaganda of gays will make more gay people... One thing is to accept it and another is to shove into peoples faces left and right... Just like the propaganda of being fat is beautiful, thus look at the world, and see where that propaganda is in abundance, you have a zillion of fat people living there. it's FACT. whether you agree or not.
Such ignorance. I pity you child. The gays have not been given any special rights. They are just being given the same rights as everyone else. Absolutely nothing will happen if gay mariage is legalized. You won't even notice it. It's already been legalized in many other places in the world and the devil has not shown his face. I will agree on one point only. The words bigot and homophobe are being overused. Thats the only one.
The whole issue with your argument is that it's religiously based. You're certainly allowed to hold whatever beliefs you choose. But this country is founded on a separation of church and state, so by that very definition, you can't be basing rules for society for ALL on the religious beliefs of SOME.

Religious ideals are becoming less and less relevant in today's society, with more progressive people realising people who are attracted to their own sex are entitled to the same rights to anyone else. Deal with it. To the people saying that this will encourage people to become gay themselves, I don't think you have any idea of how silly you sound.

I never said that, I'm worried about my civil liberties to tactfully disobey in my church and in my business. But you seemed to think it was something irrelevant.
No, I was referring to comments from others, not you. How does someone else getting married affect your civil liberties in any way whatsoever? That to me seems very selfish, that you don't want homosexual men and women to wed just because it goes against YOUR beliefs.
I'm not selfish, they have their free-will, but I'm terrified and saddened by the bullying and the damn lawsuits! I know the stories about Barronelle, about Melissa, and you still don't get it!!!
These crazy lunatics have stolen our hard earned money; they humiliate us with their agenda, the insults, the teasing, the rudeness, the hypocrisy and violence.
Besides, why can't they just see a damn lawyer? But oh no, they HAVE to have a wedding, they HAVE to get people to agree with them, advance the agenda and son on.
I wouldn't be happy about it but there isn't much I can do about it once the Supreme Court has made a decision. But that's part of being part of a Democracy, you vote on things and sometimes they go towards the direction you want and sometimes they don't but everyone got their vote and was free to make to make it anyway they want.
Equal rights is not the same thing as special rights. All that is done is that is all states permitted same-sex marriage. They shouldn't have to move all the way to another state just to have the wedding of their dreams. You're using the slippery slope fallacy, so that's not really valid. Our country is founded under secular principles and we practice seperation of church and state.
The U. S. is one nation under God, this nation was founded on Christianity. In Christany homosexuality is a sin. Even if your not religious, bad things happen to nations who go against the grain they are founded on.
Correct me if I'm wrong but wasn't the US founded on secular beliefs? Didn't the founding fathers speciffically imply that religion and government should be seperate?
ThisDudeHere , Yea but if was more as a check and balances law. Making sure one thing didn't have too much power over the other. There is mention of God throughout many documents. God is printed on every piece of our currency. ShaeNielson, nice strawman there.
If someone is against gay marriage then they are against gay marriage. That's it. End of story. Just because they aren't progressive to the idea doesn't make them hateful.
I feel gay couples have every entitlement to being in a civil union/domestic partnership with all the same rights as a married couple. I feel marriage is a sacred term that's already been defined for thousands of years as a man & a woman.
However, if you believe in birth control, being against gay marriage makes you a hypocrite. Just saying.

You are not making any apparent sense. I guess Logic died, when Computers became common.
Disallowing a couple to be together that can't procreate while negating your own ability to procreate is hypocritical. That's what doesn't make any apparent sense. I don't know your views on birth control, but you imply that you're fine with it. In the traditional sense, birth control is just as much of a sin as homosexual sex & people don't go around condemning that. So not sure what gives. I'm just very intrigued as to where you stand on those correlating issues. But whatever, it's none of my business how you'd defend your stance on that...
And you contradict yourself. "Calling" & "Implying" are two different things. Very cute. I'm not wasting my time with you anymore. Go stick your head back in the sand.
Anti gay people will start lynching and murdering gay couples. These people will be the most innocent looking that you wouldn't suspect at all. Devils are always well in disguise. Sweet and normal like Angel but with a black heart.
