I was thinking about this last night after getting home from hanging out with my friend after work. I used to have a huge crush on her, got let down twice. First time was okay, the second really hurt.
I'm over it now---or rather, her---and definitely not gonna try a third time; I learned my lesson. If anything I was the most miserable when I liked her, but I really miss feeling that way about someone, likeing them. Not the emotional rollercoaster part, though. Ugh.
Anyway, I was contemplating this last night:
The hardest thing about moving on isn't exactly getting over someone who meant a lot to you, but the effort and sometimes personal challenge it takes to invest those feelings in someone else.

I think that part of what makes moving on difficult is the awareness that you can't avoid: everything that I thought was good and worthy and true and lasting is gone, and I was totally wrong about everything!
