Throughtout this whole time I was reading about goal setting but I never really got around to set goals because of fear and my belief in my inadequatenesss.
The brain's reticular activation system focuses on the things in your life that goes with your belief and elects to deduct anything that doesn't go with belief. When we have total belief in ourselves the brain will naturally focus your attention on the reasons why you'll succeed and the level of belief will reflect in the amount of action you'll take and how much you'll eventually endure.
Oppositely why when you don't believe in yourself your brain will start shouting at you reasons why you'll fail. The fear of failure is lack of belief in ourselves. Sometimes we don't know we're afraid because this fear is manifested in many forms such as cockiness, anger, depression, lack of taking actions, and etc.
What makes this fear so difficult to address is that this fear is that it's more unconscious than conscious.
The Paradox of Fear
As humans we will suppress this fear because it threatens our egos. This fear is a part of ourselves that few people are willing to face. We'll have to admit that we're weak and this hurts the ego. Another reason is that our unconscious mind has the ability to foreshadow the price we will have to pay in order to achieve this goal. We fear we won't be able to handle the load and self-savatoge ourselves.
We may see this as a negative thing but THATS THE BEST PART! The fact that our minds is avoiding facing certian part of ourselves makes me believe that there's an aspect of our self-image that will have to change in order to become a person who attracts this particular goal. The ego doesn't want change. It's happy with who it is, but your not.
Fear should be viewed as an opportunity to grow and don't we all say that we want to continue growing as people? Knowing that do you still want to be the best actor in the world? Or the best athelete? They had to overcome that fear of failure and stick through it dispite evidence that went againts the current of their beliefs.
How To Conquer Fear
The only way we can face these fears and unmask them is througrh setting goals that challenges our fears and assumptions. They stretch the belief you have in yourself and challenges you to go further than you've ever gone before.
That little gut feeling you get when you imagine setting your goal to become a millionaire or some isoteric vision of yourself that seems impossible for you to achieve at this current moment in time. These are the kind of goals we must strive for in achieving. The problem is that people set goals that don't cause some discomfort and boy does that make sense! Who wants to feel fear? The ones that don't want it bad enough! You have to want it so badly that you'll go through hell and high water to achieve your dreams.
I'm not going to lie to you there are some goals that I can think of that also brings fear to my stomach. Your not the only one. By all means I am not perfect my friend! But the difference between you and me and the elite people of the world is how we face our fears in life.
Facing Our Fears Requires a Simple Change in Mentality
Do we view our fears as a hindrince or do we view them as a challenge that'll break your current reality and establish a higher level of belief in oneself.
To reittirate in order to face these fears and overcome them we must set goals that defy the belief you have of yourself.
When we set high goals we unmask those demons inside of us and as a result we gradually become an enhanced version of ourselves as a result of setting higher expectations for ourselves.
A good way to set and achieve higher goals is to backward engineer your goal and break it down into smaller steps and then FOCUS ON THOSE SMALL STEPS.
When I say to focus on the smaller steps I mean stay in the moment. Know that you mapped out your life and all you have to do is focus on the smaller steps and master everything that is placed in front of you. Never getting ahead of yourself because when we do we elect to take shortcuts that can cause us to lie to people or stunt our growth as a result of undermining certain fundamentals.
Once you achieve your goal most of the time we feel a sense of accomplishment and our old reality feels like it's been shattered. It'll be easier for you to attain that goal if someone takes it away from you.
Give a poor man a million dollar and watch him go broke in 5 years. Take a self made millionaire's money and wealth and watch him become a millionaire in 5 years or less. Achieving goals is a skill set. Not some isoteric blessing that only a few select individuals were divinely gifted to have.
So go out there and achieve your dreams! :D
