I just want to start by saying that the situation facing the refugees coming into Europe is appalling and I really do feel for them. This isn't about me not wanting them here. we should do all we can to help.
The problem I have is that we suddenly have this massive influx of people who are willing to let them have their spare rooms, or to pay for lodging etc. sure, its all well and good, but what about the thousands of men, women and children living rough on our own streets? why is there no compassion for these people?
In london alone there are 6500 homeless who sleep rough every year (Streetsoflondon.org.uk), and up to 185,000 nationwide (Mason 2013). In 2014 it was estimated that the number of childeren without a permenant home was 90,000 (BBC News).
44% of homeless people have long term physical health conditions which persist for over 12 months, and 44% have mental health conditions. 27% have problems with alcohol, whilst 78% smoke and 41% have a drug addiction. 36% are disabled (Homeless Link).
On top of this, there is an estimated 3 million people in the uk alone who are malnourished and do not have enough to eat on a regular basis (Johnston 2012)
I could go on all day quoting fact and figures, but thats not what this is about. I want to know why people are suddenly willing to help refugees, but turn a blind eye to the problems we have here in the UK, or elsewhere for that matter. Im sure homelessness is a major issue in most other devolped countries.
Again, it is a sad situation and I really do feel for the refugees coming into Europe, but why are we not more concerned about our own who have slipped through the cracks?

Also, why don't the Arab nations like Saudi, Dubai, etc also take them? Regarding the UK, I'm a South African that tried to get into UK and Australia. I have my honors degree in criminology and I was supposed to get a job in the UK. But I went as that recession hit and... yeah, computer said no. It's funny because self sufficient, economy contributing folk from South Africa have a harder time getting in to these countries than most people and South Africa has violence almost matching war torn countries.
