I think there's just confusion over gender roles in today's modern society.
I agree. Too many people scream "sexist" when roles are assumed based on gender and based on that man or woman's level of femininity or masculinity.
But there are clear differences between the terms and I think it's safe to use those as references.
@BigPunny of course it is sexist, people should assume "roles" (tasks) because they are better at it, not because they have a penis or a vagina.
@Mesonfielde It isn't sexist to assume that men are going to be better at some things while women are better than others.
It's also not sexist to assume, based on femininity or masculinity, that a person will be better at one thing or another.
It's called common sense and being realistic. Granted, those assumptions can be wrong, but that's why you have competency tests to verify the man or woman can do the job. There's nothing sexist about that.
@BigPunny Skills are learnable. Anyone can be taught math as long as they don't have dyscalculia ( mentalfloss.com/.../11-facts-about-math-disorder-dyscalculia ). Anyone can learn how to fix a car if they learn the terms of the problem domain and the steps of the mechanical procedure and algorithm. Just because women are discouraged from becoming engineers and pursuing STEM fields (and males from pursuing becoming a "nurse" for example) doesn't mean they are biologically predisposed to being worse at it "than men". Your sex affects you in basic elements of your personality and it affects you in your expression of sexuality (and also in gender expression as defined by culture), but that still doesn't justify assuming that you'll have specific interests or you'll be proficient at certain things just because you were born with a particular chromosome. Anyone can learn how to cook.
@Mesonfielde "Skills are learnable" - but most women have a cap on their ability to lift a lot of weight and maintain extreme labor over long periods of time. That's what I'm referring to. If you're simply referring to a job that requires you to use your head, then of course men and women can do that equally.
But when you're talking about tolerance, patience, and compassion - more women are suited for that job than men. When you talk about constant heavy-lifting and rigorous work for 12 hours straight, more men are suited for that.
That's also why you don't see a lot of women in some jobs or a lot of men in others.
How many female loggers do you know? What % of construction workers are female? And when they do get a construction job, their job functions aren't typically the same as a man's. Could they do the work? Sure, but their bodies aren't designed to do a 'man's job', which is why women and men place themselves into roles.
The same for Nursing. . IT. . Child Care. .
@Mesonfielde "Just because women are discouraged from becoming engineers and pursuing STEM fields"
And who is discouraging women from becoming engineers? Who is discouraging women from pursuing any job that can be done solely based on using one's intellect?
I certainly don't. If a woman wants to be an engineer, and she CHOOSES to be an engineer, and goes to college to be an engineer, then she'll become an engineer.
I wonder why people discourage women from working as a logger. I know there are just tons of women that are jumping to the field of logging. Or how about working as a roughneck. . I wish people would stop discouraging women from doing that, because there are millions of women lining up to do those jobs.
lol.
Stop creating sexism where none exists, because you're taking away from actual sexism.
@Mesonfielde Oh, and one more thing to point out that's very important to this discussion.
More often than not, the women that DO get on as a roughneck or logger or fisherwoman, or any other 'man job' are typically women that are more masculine.
And why is that?
ding, ding, ding.
@BigPunny just because you are unaware of this particular instance of sexism doesn't mean it doesn't exist.

People are actually still disputing whether women actually do suck at it or not. They tend to claim "women are just more nurturing and more into accounting and being a nurse", but some people are just easily discouraged from doing things. I mean, you don't often see guys wearing skirts, even though TECHNICALLY nothing stops them from doing so (beyond peer pressure and possibly physical threats and stuff)
Men go outside and women stay at home.
Men command and women obey.
Man is the lord and master... to be a woman means to submit.
Men work while women cook, clean and be good in bed.
Men own wealth, property, the family name, women, children, items and everything there is to own... women own nothing. Women have no identity except their master's.
Men get to choose who to marry. Women have no say in the matter.
Men get sex whenever they want. Women can't refuse sex.
Men walk in front, with their heads high... women remain covered and walk with their heads down.
Men talk with confidence. Women must speak in soft voices.
...
and more!!
Men use hoes, but if a woman dares to have extra or pre-marital sex, she should be killed.
(preferably stoned to death or poisoned)
Men should beat women to correct their behaviour. Meanwhile, women should not speak among men... in fact they must keep their heads down and never talk to strangers... ever.
Your nuts.
lmao you should sign up for Fetlife, you'll love it there
ROFL
THIS IS HOW IT'S ALWAYS BEEN. Men must dominate women and women should be kept in check!!
Damn Straight! Gender labels are stupid.
These labels are there for a reason.
Did anybody actually read what I wrote lol? Honestly nobody is getting what I was saying.
Most people won't read the whole thing. It's something you have to get used to.
I shouldn't have to get use to anything, why come on here if you're not going to read what someone wrote and then comment on something you didn't even read? It makes no sense.
I hate gender roles with a huge passion
I do argee 100% with this
You mean you actually got what I was saying?
Yes i do im told if i get upset or shows my feeling then im not a man... for a Long while i let the World choice who i can be... But know i shows my feels turns out holding it all in wa. Causing me so much stress
Thank you. I hate stereotypes. It's not right.
-shakes head-
