Newsflash: Curvy is a SHAPE, Not a Size!

This will be short and to the point.

Curvy is shape, it is NOT a size. It is not another word for fat. Or overweight. Or plus size. Or obese. It is a SHAPE. Most women would fall under the real category of curvy, because most women have curves. Thinner women can have curves. Bigger women can have curves. To tell someone that they aren't allowed to refer to themselves as curvy because they don't happen to be the size that you feel they should be, is dumb. I'm beyond tired of this argument. We, as women, should not be tearing each other down over simple shit like this. Men, you shouldn't be denouncing women that you don't feel fit into your idea of curvy because she isn't your preference. I look at my curves in the mirror daily, and I'll be damned if I'm gonna let somebody tell me what I can refer to myself as. I'll be damn unicorn if I feel like it! We should all be able to embrace our curves, whether they are on a size 6 body or a size 16. We have to do better. Period.

I agree. It's ironic because there was a young woman who posted how we shouldn't body shame, but then turned around and shamed larger women saying that fat isn't a curve. I think women are just so wrapped up in this competition of being better than other women: we have to be prettier, guys have to like us more, we have to be more success, etc.

It's amazing how many more people could be at the top if we helped each other up instead of trying to step on each other's heads.

I believe curvy is a matter of opinion. But I really think that obese woman have taken the word curvy for themselves. To say that a overweight women can be curvy is a matter of opinion. I have never known a overweight or obese women to have a defined waist by the definition of curvy. Yes a woman can be curvy at any size but that does not include overweight women and obese women. A woman can be in a healthy weight range not be overweight and be in shape and still be a size 12 or 14. If a woman is excessively overweight like 15-50 pounds overweight and is not within her weight for her height she is overweight. I'm not sure why some people can not accept this. Sorry but Being overweight for your height, chubby, or obese and calling yourself curvy does not change the fact that the person has excessive weight.

I agree in a way but most overweight women aren't curvy just like most underweight women aren't curvy. Most of the time the overweight woman carries too much fat on her midsection to have the curve which would define her as curvy. Essentially they start to look like one giant circle which isn't curvy. Most underweight people lack the curve as well because their waist and hips are usually the same size so they lack the curve in their stomach as well. When you don't have that hip to waist ratio then you are not curvy. Now that's not to say that a 42-36-42 isn't curvy because she most likely is but a 28-26-28 is not curvy and neither is a 43-41-43 as their isn't a big enough difference for you to see a curve in her body which would make her non curvy. This is my personal opinion. I would say I'm curvy but I'm very petite at 5'2 my measurements are 32-21-38 I consider myself curvy because of the sizable difference between waist to hip. It's just like being a 42-34-46 except on a more voluptuous scale lol She most likely weighs more than me but she's also likely to be taller. There's also a chance of her having a lot of muscle so essentially she wouldn't look overweight because muscle weighs more than fat. Lots of variables come into place with situations like this. I don't believe everyone should call themselves curvy and I don't think what the mainstream media is portraying as curvy is right either but at the same time I couldn't care less about what someone calls themselves.

Lets look at this way, words are given meaning to them - words are not discovered. I see your point and you are absoletley right.. But two issues

1. Its not practical for people to say hourglass/voluptuous.. curvy became the meaning of that
2. It actually was use to define a women that was shaped like a violin, an attractive healthy womens figure shaped as an hour glass with good shoulders OR in the traditional sense having an ample bosom (big chest), trim waist and a round butt

Today its actually being exploited and curvy is being used by companies to target fat people, by using the word curvy to make them feel better about themselves and profit more

The reason most people don't find ''Curvy'' attractive, is because most curvy women are overweight / obese.

Those girls on the bottom, ''Curvy'' or not, I bet their BMI's will tell you they are overweight and have more body fat mass then they should, THATS what makes them curvy, An excess in fat in certain areas.

And, Overweight is not something to be naturally attractive. Its just instinctual for us.

I love this. I wanted to write a myTake about this myself, but I thought it would just turn into a rant. Short but sweet, and to the point.
I'm stuck in the middle of this debate because my waist is a size 6- so people think 'oh she's skinny/ slender' but my breasts are much bigger and my hips are 10 inches bigger than my waist- and if I say that people say 'oh she's so curvy!'.
But when it comes down to it, the curvy and the slender groups both say "no you're not like us!" and actually, I think I'm curvy, but it's this misconception that it's a size and not a shape that makes people so 'oh no you're so skinny stop saying that' when actually I don't mean I'm plus-sized. I mean I'm curvy.

I can't help but sit back and wonder if some guys didn't get dropped on their head as a kid by the closed mindedness and shallow ways of thinking when it comes to some of the answers I see regarding women's size. I have dated a varied range size of Ladies and found ( unexplainably ) the more full figured women to be shall I say , more real. I agree , i just commented on a post saying women that are larger than what we see on t. v cannot be curvy and being curvy wasn't beautiful her words " a sphere has curves". smh I had to explain to her the term curvy stand for hourglass women and women of any size can be hourglass. Then I had to explain the difference between thick and curvy. Thick is pear shaped women and women of anysize can be that shaped or even apple shaped or rectangle shaped. Well you're right... curvy is a shape... but it also implicitly refers to a fit woman too... for instance a woman who has an hourglass figure and is in healthy fitness can start letting herself go and she balloons up 3 sizes... underneath all that extra pounds she still has curves cause that's just how her body is... but now she's fat... nobody would describe her as curvy.

true. and to elaborate on this, there are some main body types, like hourglass, pear, apple and ruler, on which it doesn't matter how much you weigh, but how fat is being distributed in your body. All shapes are curvy, except for ruler. Hourglass is the most curvy of course. And except from the basic body shapes, there exist many other shapes that are variations of them. eg I have a spoon body shape.

Most women here, at least in my country, are indeed curvy! And 90% of them are skinny (me being in the 90%). Curvy does not only mean humongous boobs and hips bigger than 5 football balls. It just means that you have less fat over here, but more fat over there, creating curves on the outline of the body. :D

curvy is an hourglass body, being overweight can have consecuences such as cancer, pcos, heart disease, diabetes. It's all about what u eat, u can do all the excersise u want and still be overweight becauseu may be eating unhealthy and light products are not healthy, those are the worst kind of products made just to sell and deceive people. I believe only in the healthy weight with a right composition of muscular mass and body fat. Yes, we should all be able to embrace what we are, so if someone is fat is fat but not to disguise being fat with being curvy. We should accept ourselves, it's like when some Asian people don't like being called Asians cuz they find it as an insult, but it¡s like damn that's who u are. At least in my school we couldn't called anyone for their ethnicity, which i found stupid.
