Why not just not celebrate it at all, if nothing's allowed?
Who the fuck said nothing is allowed? Seriously? Your reaction to "don't say or do racist stuff" is "so I can't do anything?" So basically what you're saying is that you're incapable of not being racist. Alright buddy.
@cipher42 So dressing as a Native American is racist, because it's not your culture, but celebrating a tradition that it's not from your culture is right? Anyone that celebrates Halloween and is not Celtic, is a racist.
The hypocrisy...
You are the cancer that is killing society.
https://youtu.be/3rIM9fPCTAsI was just about to post this! Thanks for saving my time :)
Hmm I liked this. I even learned a little bit about Native American culture from the video. Especially the about how they would say a prayer for each bead, it gives you some insight on who these people are. Awesome stuff. :]
Okay, I'm usually all on board for being empathetic and sensitive to other people's limits of what is okay and what isn't, but this article of yours seems a little wack. When I first saw that first picture a month or so ago, I seriously thought it was a joke. There are some very concrete and easily understandable examples of "not okay" here, but some others have me thinking that people are making political correctness into a game to see who can get the most offended.
I SAY that people should stop being so offended and just suck it up god dammit. Like I am Norse, and vikings don't wear horns on their helmets. Does it annoy me? Yes. Am I going to be offended by it? Hell no. Why is it that our culture is SO DAMN OFFENDED BY EVERYTHING? ESPECIALLY on Halloween?
Really? Left the door open to anonymous posts? Okay,
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hqIsc8ooXugSome people are just too easily offended and overly sensitive:
(case and point) ... If white people made a song like that, people would be up in arms. But when black people make a song like that, it's "gansta rap."
Seriously. It's called the First Amendment. You don't like it, don't buy the costume.
Thank you. Answer mine?

Man just get over it. I'm Mexican but I'm not crying every year during Cinco de Mayo when white and black people use that day as a reason to get shit faced nor do I care about none Mexicans wearing a sombrero during Halloween. It doesn't effect me personally so fuck it!
I don't have a problem even if it's racist and even if you say it insults my race. Just don't spoil the fun of Halloween. There are already enough worries and stresses in real life... and I hope we all need a break.
Those Indian and Asian costumes are not racist. It more so homage and respect. A majority of people who wear those particular costumes. Do not have the objective of disrespecting Asians or Native Americans. But the black face KKK, and green card get up was cleary intended as disrespect and mockery. This is very obvious so I don't believe you can compare them all as racist.
When I was little, my mom dressed me up as a geisha. I had fun, I looked pretty and it was a pretty cool costume. Neither me or my mom ever thought about it as a race/racist thing, we just had fun on Halloween. It's just a costume. Stop thinking everything is racist. Just chill.
here's how i see it and its partly because I take pleasure in going against what most people think.
Racism has a definition that is based on what people feel. Not the term deciding how people feel. If your feeling this stuff is projecting a negative emotion in you. Then thats it, its already wrong
everyone is so PC these days its impossible not to offend somebody.
People seriously need to chill the fuck out.
I am glad I didn't see too many detestable answers to this. Maybe most people aren't that bad with this PC stuff.
As for you, you're over the hill with the mind of a child. Pitiable.
People who complain and b*tch about being politically correct, which is really just having empathy and consideration towards the feelings of others, are most likely the same assholes who would like to be able to do or say whatever they please despite how racist, inappropriate, and offensive it is.
She doesn't have the mind of a child: you're just on the defense and attacking her for no legitimate reason.
There are even people dressing up as Hitler on a regular basis and people laugh about it. Really, a costume is a costume, people should really learn to stop freaking out about irrelevant stuff like that - like the world doesn't have enough ACTUALLY SERIOUS problems to worry about..
indeed
Hmm it seems like to me you never had any fun as a child on Halloween. .. probably because of your parents being high strung. Halloween is one night people get to pretend to be some body or something! im a pinata this Halloween does that make me racist? Nooo
I don't see how D-Wade dressing up as a famous white singer is being racist. He probably really admires the guy and loves his music.
Haha it was pretty racist. Kid looked like a reverse Al Jolsen.
I dug it tho. Not even butthurt.
I don't understand the first picture. The one with the black person and the vampire... is that, or is that not, a black person at a party with a vampire going to bite their neck?
And don't try to tell me that that's not how people from the hood dress. I've seen it.
that is not a black person. That is a white person in black face.
Do you believe that people (including children) can only dress up as actual public/historical figures or roles (Viking, warrior) etc from their own race/heritage?
Also, do you agree or disagree about individuals dressing up as members of their own race from a different socioeconomic group (aka a "white trash" or "ghetto" party among wealthier whites/African americans)?
Just curious...
I've already addressed the first question several times. There is some confusion, probably should have been more clear. No problems with people respectfully dressing up as another culture. People do that all year round at all sorts of cultural festivals... that is how you learn, hopefully, the real meaning behind such clothing and the history of it. I'm referring to those who wear stuff like "Bolly Ho" or "Arab Bomber" or like the girls pictured with the green cards. These people aren't dressing up because they love/respect/understand the culture, they are doing it solely for racist/insensitive/derogatory reasons. To your second question, I personally have never done it and wouldn't for many of the same reasons I don't condone or use the "N" word as a black person. I prefer to spend my time working in social programs that seek to uplift our community, not keep it down.
Thanks for sharing your perspective
Vikings, cowboys, English monarchs, knights, druids, roman emperors, anyone wearing a toga ever. If you're going to have a problem with geisha then who should have a problem with any historical European costumes as well.
So any depiction of "culture" is off-limits? Isn't every costume representing someone's culture? You're right, I didn't need to think long and hard about this, because it's ridiculous.
Hahahaha yet no fuck will be given if someone comes in as a Roman or a Viking.
I will wear the costume I want.
