Pizza & Wine ~ A (Sort of) Monologue by RJ

Pizza and Wine – to some, they may hear these words and picture a beautiful romantic dinner is Naples, eating a delicate Neapolitan pizza paired with a nice Fiano di Avellino while you look over the beautiful Italian city scape …

I on the other hand picture Little Caesar’s hot n’ ready along with a $20.00 dollar bottle of chardonnay, along with bootleg crime documentaries that I found on Youtube.

People don’t fully appreciate the beauty of spending a Friday night with the luscious aroma and flavor of an Italian knock-off meal that you didn’t have to prepare and a full-bodied buzz that makes you forget that it’s rent pay this week. Yes, your hunger and nerves are silenced with this perfection combination, as the pizza fulfills your cravings and the wine all but wipes away the inevitable guilt you feel for eating almost an entire large to yourself. It’s a beautiful thing – poetic even. Pair it with a boo-thang and some afterhours video games and this scene would be romantic as fuck.

If you don’t have a boo-thang, you could always just take yourself out on a “little date” later, if you catch my meaning. After all, you’ll be drunk enough to not feel shameful for wacking off by the time you’re ready to pass out anyways, am I right?

You might be wondering by now what the point of this take is, so I’ll take a moment to explain; this week, I have had next to no will power to eat healthy and go to the gym every other day as I normally do. I tried for the past two days to get back on track, and found my stress levels only worsening, due to my particular situation and my desperate attempts to stick to my healthy lifestyle. It wasn’t until I took the time to really think about my past that I remembered a very keen lesson after recovering from my eating disorder: sometimes, you need to just let yourself be. If that means you take a week off to eat whatever you want and sleep in while your stress passes then that is what you need to do. And to me, there is no greater relief of stress than a solid pizza along with a cheap wine that’ll fulfill your buzz-needs for the entire weekend, making sleep effortless and keeping your nerves dull.

Of course, this is only a temporary fix, but sometimes allowing yourself to simply be an imperfect human is exactly the medicine you need to get yourself back on track the following week.

So, this weekend remember to treat yourselves and keep your interpersonal pressure to a minimum, because you’re only human and sometimes you need to pull out your “IDGAF” card.
