I fail to see how professionally taken and edited photos of models wearing stylist chosen clothing and artist done makeup in perfect lighting conditions is supposed to be representative of the average woman.
I see why they wear that burqa to keep my ass in line. Because I'd be all OVA dat!
Oh Jesus. So ashamed of myself.
Everything that covers face or eyes is straight out creepy and I don't understand the logic behind it.
As for hijab, I think we'd see a lot more acceptance for it if it weren't for countries forcing people to wear them. It gives a feeling that you can never tell if the women walking around with it does it because they have a strict family or because they chose to do so. Nobody wants anyone to be in such situations, and it's clearly not healthy for anyone.
their are few countries that require it to be worn, only in theocracies does that apply (rule by religion) most do not require it, its a choice made by the individual. Also whats the difference between that and having to wear a tie to work? They don't have to wear it at home just when they go out, originally it was considerd rude not to wear a hat outside, it was odd and most did so only removing it when indoors, not that much different.(In these few countries men do not have to cover their head but many do for the same reason as women do, they also wear clothing that covers the body fully as well so its not as one sided as western media likes to portray it)
@hellionthesage There's quite a few countries that it's required by law. I wouldn't say that if I didn't know for sure. I know different countries have different rules, don't talk to me as I'm stupid.
their are a lot of countries that don't require the burqa, many that don't require much others wear it because its custom, some regions may require basic hair covering but again this is where religion dominates politics, few countries comparatively speaking. I wasn't speaking to you as if you where stupid, but as ignorant. Lack of knowledge is nothing to be ashamed of, ignoring facts however is. Don't get offended if you get corrected, being corrected insures you don't make the mistake again, better to be wrong once then always wrong.

yes their are places, that doesn't mean its everywhere or most places. It doesn't mean its prevalent. That is what I was saying, you made the statement that you didn't know if they where forced or not, I stated that while their are places that do so most do not so its unlikely that it would be forced. I live in america, I see women wearing the head covers all the time, its not law its not forced, its choice. Hence my remark that its usually choice not because its forced.

You can't really say a woman who hides her face though is beautiful if you can't see her face. You're saying her outfit is beautiful, which is still fine, but we aren't looking at clothes here.

Yep they are allowed, in most if not 90% of the Arab countries in fact.
This is why i encourage people to go visit some countries in the Middle East instead of taking all of their perception of Arabs and Muslims from the Media (who only show you most extreme countries like Saudi Arabia).

My response is that, given her selection (women who do NOT wear Burkas) her posting does not answer the question of what Arab women look like under THEIR burkas, because these women do not wear burkas.

She's trying to give a small sample of people from a certain region/country. E. g Palestine, Morocco, etc.
Implying that these are their features in specific regions, even though they can vary greatly with skin/eye/hair colour and texture.
It's like if English girls wore the burka, then I'd give you a sample of English celebs that might represent a variety.
I would give you cheryl Cole, fearne cotton, Lilly Allen, holly Willoughby and princess Diana.
So you could see a variety of English girls and think 'ah so that's what they generally look like over there.'

While I don't think most women who wear the burqa also get this glam/have model faces/are models, I can see where you're coming from.
They might not true haha but when I used to live in Saudi Arabia I saw some crazy things haha these women are sometimes the ones who spend the most money of make up/clothes/lingerie :p
Lol, well, gotta get a little freaky somewhere. My professor is from Pakistan and we went on a little field trip to a mosque, and another Pakistan native was telling about how dolled up everyone was.
And I have to admit, some of the best eyebrow and eye make up tutorials I've seen are of women who dress modestly.
