The Culture Of Being Fake

The world is full of sad, delusional, angry, and severely disillusioned people. And with no real grasp on reality or anybody to teach them any better, they turn to the only thing they have left and that is fake-ass pop culture.

They concoct elaborate fantasy worlds and fake personas of themselves according to whatever facet of pop culture they choose to desperately cling to.

Now these loudmouth wannabe clowns prey on weak, and impressionable minds with flashy images of the trash lifestyle. And with the technology of communication being what it is, things like this are allowed to keep growing and growing at an alarming rate. And the more people it affects, the more normal it starts to seem.

So real culture and self-awareness start getting corrupted and replaced more and more by the culture of being fake.

So while people lose their real culture, pride, any real uniqueness, and their fierce individualism.................They gain nothing. :|

Here's the problem. You don't get to make that call. You don't get to say who is fake and who isn't.

People who are true to themselves and exploring their identity often end up having that stifled by people crying "Fake" when in reality, it's simply different.

Projecting is very real, and alarmingly common. As an example, an introvert may have trouble believing the behavior of extroverts, and vice-versa.
But at some point you have to get over judging people and pretending everyone will fit into your box and be like you.

Most people are just exploring their identity, or are genuinely unusual.
The only fake people are people who have been told their behavior is fake or unacceptable while exploring it and feel guilt.
Fake comes from repressing a behavior, not indulging or exploring it.

Does that make sense?

Unfortunately, you seem more close-minded to exploring concepts that are new to you, so I wouldn't expect you to be open to what I'm saying. You certainly can't be brilliant to the close minded or ignorant. I mean there's a ton of people out there who declare Stephen Hawking and Neil DeGrasse Tyson to be hack jobs. Not brilliant academics. It says more about the person making the accusation than the person being accused.

And yes, I've considered your point of view and even held it when I was younger. When I was a teenager.
Then I realized I was labeling very successful and happy and open-minded people as being "Fake." So I grew up and realized that people change; a lot. That no one is static. That people are fluid and the most fluid people seem to be some of the happiest and most interesting. That people do challenge their identity and fake people are those who repress their identity.

Again, exploring and challenging your identity doesn't make you fake. It makes you grow.
Judging people for their identity doesn't make you genuine, it makes you cynical and close-minded.

If you don't like my haughty tone, fine. But I don't think you need to be close-minded. Who knows, maybe you're not. I'd like to see you exercise that and explore the concepts I'm bringing up. I certainly can't do it for you. I don't get to choose a person's perspective, they do.

Are you sure you're not calling other people fake, when in reality, you are actually the person being fake, thus the very definition of Projecting?

You may argue fake is the imitation of a behavior. But I would argue that means everyone in any walk of life is "fake." Imitating others is what we do as social human beings.
Your definition is poor, and too broad to be applied to humanity at all.

I would instead argue that fake is someone repressing who they actually are, and only that.
Yes, there are people repressing their desires, interests, and behaviors to imitate culture, and they are fake. But again, you can't make that call unless you know those people.

So again, stop judging, and get over yourself.

Honestly I think you have some specific groups in mind that you wanted to target with this take. People who follow certain trends, or maybe just trend-followers in general.

But you speak from a person looking in. You have no idea if they genuinely enjoy following trends and exploring the popular parts of their culture. You simply want to judge because you want to believe you're better; Somehow. You want an excuse to like yourself.
But all you have is cynicism. And at best, that just drives you to spread your misery.

I speak against you because I know people who enjoy popular things, even in geek and nerd culture, and get trashed despite their genuine like. So they repress their enjoyment around others. Then, they become fake.
It's tragic, and it's bullshit. So people like you, yea, I'll stand up to people like you every day of the week, so that you can't prey on those who just want to explore their identity in this perfectly healthy way and find themselves while doing it.

Very well worded. Pop culture is only one of many influences that suggest we should be somebody else instead of ourselves. I don't really know how it all started, but more and more of us are becoming aware of our own habits and thoughts. Truth is we CAN be ourselves, long before the rest of the world comes to grips. Being aware is the first step and a huge step. I spent a good part of my life not even realizing that I was out of touch with reality and myself.

But I will defend a person's right to enjoy and explore those things, and I won't go around telling them they're wrong or bad for it.
