6 Mental Health Conditions That Could Disqualify You From Enlisting in the U.S. Military

Those who plan on joining the military may want to make sure they don't have the following mental health conditions. Keep in mind that I'm not discouraging anyone from joining the military. You might still be able to join if you have any of the following conditions if you sign some kind of medical waiver, but from what I hear, the waivers aren't always successful.

Most of this info can be found all over the Internet. These mental health conditions can be current or if you had them before; either way they can disqualify people from the military.

Basically any mental disorder that can impair your ability in the military can automatically disqualify you from joining the military even during drafts.

My cousin was in the military until he completed his required time. He told me he has always had OCD but he didn't know it had a name, so he kept quiet about his symptoms. It wasn't until he got out of the military that he found out he has OCD. His OCD isn't that severe anymore but if he would have known about his OCD and said something, he might have been disqualified from the military.

While this can be disappointing for people who want to join any branch of the military but have one or more of these conditions, these disqualifications can also be a blessing for those who have one or more of these conditions and are afraid of a possible military draft in the future, because these conditions may prevent those people from being drafted into the military. Keep in mind that there are also physical conditions that can disqualify people from the military as well.
