RUSSIA

In Russia the "kokoshnik" (headdress) is an important part of traditional dress (sarafan).
It is worn by married women.
Unmarried women wear a "povyashka", which is open at the back. I find this headdress very unique, they come in all shapes and sizes and different colors.

Traditionally, Russian clothing has two main colors – a natural color of the material – white, and red. “Red” is the same word that was used in the olden days to call everything beautiful. That is, red elements in clothing became beautiful elements. Interaction with other nations led to emergence of very interesting new colors in Russian clothing: yellow, gold, blue, etc.

BALI

What Is Your Favorite Traditional Clothing? -Clothes and Facts - Part 5

The traditional Balinese dress is similar to the Indian sari but has more of a sarong feel and is usually of heavier fabric. I love the bright colors, and honestly, i WOULD love to have one of these dresses.

In work outside the home, especially for office and store jobs, Balinese wear Western-style clothes. Around the house, men wear shorts and a tank top, or a sarong (a skirtlike garment). Men's traditional clothing includes a kamben sarung (a type of sarong) of endek (a locally made cloth) or batik cloth.

FRANCE

A coiffe is an intricate lace headdress worn as part of the folk costumes of Brittany, though now only seen for local festivals, or pardons. The most striking is the bigouden coiffe, from the area around Pont L’Abbé, a starched lace cylinder that rises to up to an astonishing 30–40cm tall. They look adorable !!!

There are three main types of clothing in French fashion: haute couture, prêt-à-porter (as known as “ready-to-wear”) and lingerie. The fashion term, haute couture, refers to high-end, tailor-made clothing.

JAPAN

KOMONO!! Meaning ‘the thing worn’, kimonos are the ultimate symbol of traditional Japanese culture. From the seventeenth century onwards they developed as the main item of dress for men and woman, and a means of expression for the individual wearer. They are still worn for special occasions, such as weddings, with modern adaptations making an appearance all over the world.

The surface decoration is significant, with symbols such as the crane, for example, indicating good fortune and long life. I love love love love Kimonos and i think they look absolutely amazing.

INDIA

What Is Your Favorite Traditional Clothing? -Clothes and Facts - Part 5

Until now i really used India a lot, their food, their face features, and LORD their dresses, i would DO EVERYTHING to wear a dress like this one day ... ( i think i was born in the wrong country lol)

Clothing in India varies depending on the different ethnicity, geography, climate and cultural traditions of the people of each region of India. Historically, male and female clothing has evolved from simple Langotas, and loincloths to cover the body to elaborate costumes not only used in daily wear but also on festive occasions as well as rituals and dance performances.

TURKEY

What Is Your Favorite Traditional Clothing? -Clothes and Facts - Part 5

So many ethnic costumes include an elaborate headdress usually containing some traditional craft work. Bashlyks, head coverings, as in clothes, were made of fur or sheepskin with the purpose of protection from the cold. Bashlyks were also observed to be symbols of status. I noticed they use a lot of Red and Gold (my Turkish friends are welcome to correct me)

PORTUGAL

And many traditional costumes are associated with dance because they were originally worn for feast days, festivals and holidays.

Portuguese traditional dress varies regionally, but it typically consists of bouffant long skirts for women and shortened leggings, waist coasts and sombreros for men. Known as saia, women's skirts display vibrant checkered or striped patterns, most often in red and white, and the outfit is completed with a kerchief to cover the hair. While traditional dress is not widely worn as of 2014, it's still used at weddings and festivals

RUSSIA

The Khanty people of Western Siberia know how to dress for the cold. And honestly, they look so fashionable.

Russian traditional costumes are in high demand by theaters, dance studios and churches all over the world. All our Russian clothing is handmade and can be customized to any needs.

KURDISTAN

What Is Your Favorite Traditional Clothing? -Clothes and Facts - Part 5

Kurdish women dressed for a traditional dance. The traditional Kurdish dresses are for everyday wear and are not reserved only for holidays. The Kurdish costume was worn many days in the past.

Currently some women still wear them on a daily basis, especially by the older generation. The dresses worn on a daily basis tend to be modest in color and have little or no accessories or embroideries. In the present day the Kurdish dress is more commonly worn on special occasions.

I love the colors and the details... <3 stunning

CHINA

A gorgeous Chinese wedding gown - red of course - topped by a gold phoenix crown.

Depending on one's status in society, each social class had a different sense of fashion in ancient China. Most Chinese men wore Chinese black cotton shoes, but wealthy higher class people would wear tough black leather shoes for formal occasions. Very rich and wealthy men would wear very bright, beautiful silk shoes sometimes having leather on the inside. Women would wear silk shoes, with certain wealthy women practicing bound feet wearing coated Lotus shoes as a status symbol until in the early 20th century. Men's shoes were usually less elaborate than women's.

KYRGYZSTAN

The fur is needed to keep warm in the winter in the mountains.

I absolutely love their dresses. Features of the nomadic lifestyle of Kyrgyz people have been reflected in their national clothes. First, the clothes had to be light and comfortable, so that a nomad could comfortably ride on horseback. Second, the clothes had to be strong, but uncomplicated, so that it could be home-made. Third, it must reliably protect people from the cold, that is important in a mountain climate.

The main materials for making clothes were coarse wool, felt, fur and leather. The noble families could afford expensive clothes made of fabrics from the towns of the Great Silk Road.

KOREA

What Is Your Favorite Traditional Clothing? -Clothes and Facts - Part 5

The Korean traditional dress is called “Hanbok” (South Korea) and Joseon-ot (North Korea). They come in vibrant colors and are worn in special festivities in Korea. The Hanbok consists of the “Jeogori” which is the blouse or the jacket and “Chima,” the wraparound skirt.

Traditional Korean clothing has its roots extending back at least as far as the Three Kingdoms Period (57 B.C. - 668 A.D.), as evidenced by wall paintings in tombs dating from this period. The Korean hanbok represents one of the most visable aspects of Korean culture.

NORWAY

What Is Your Favorite Traditional Clothing? -Clothes and Facts - Part 5

The traditional folk dress in Norway is called Bunad. ” Bunad “ is a Norwegian term that encompasses a range of both traditional and rural clothes from between the 18th and 19th century, as well as modern 20th-century folk costumes.

Traditionally bunads represented the family home and the area people came from but now in the modern world where moving from place to place is a necessity, Norwegians wear the bunad tradition from the place to which they have the strongest attachment.

ALBANIA

What Is Your Favorite Traditional Clothing? -Clothes and Facts - Part 5

There are regional variations in the Albanian national dress due to the divisional principalities that existed from the Middle Ages.
(Am really loving that they have very modern manicures!)

The Albanian folk dress is often decorated with symbolic elements of antique pagan origin, like suns, eagles, moons, stars, and snakes.[1] Almost every region in Albania has its own traditional dress with women clothing being particularly colorful and rich in detail. Fabrics are traditionally made by weaving clothes using looms. To this day, some conservative old men and women mainly from the North wear traditional clothing in their daily lives. Instead, older women from the South usually wear all-black outfits.

NORTH AFRICA

What Is Your Favorite Traditional Clothing? -Clothes and Facts - Part 5

The "Amazigh" are a sub group of the Berbers, a semi-nomadic people of Morocco, Tunisia, Libya and other areas of North West Africa. One of my favorites personally <3

These loose-fitting, yet elaborately decorated dresses are designed to show off the status and beauty of the bride while preserving her modesty; they can also accommodate up to seven more garments beneath them, which are revealed to the bride's and then to the groom's relatives during the jilwa ceremony.

TIBET

What Is Your Favorite Traditional Clothing? -Clothes and Facts - Part 5

The significance of this costume is quite incredible.
The Kampa people were mostly nomadic and they had to carry their wealth around with them, so it was usually worn.
And as such, the more ornaments and jewelry worn, the greater the wealth.
Common materials are gold, silver, coral, amber and turquoise.

The clothes worn by Tibetans are decided by the special environment and climate conditions they live in; their animal husbandry and farming lifestyle; and, in no smal measure, style and fashion. The Tibetan robe is the main Tibetan clothing item. It is loose, comfortable and wide. Tibetan robes, hat and boots are mostly made of fur or Pulu woven wool.

SWEDEN

What Is Your Favorite Traditional Clothing? -Clothes and Facts - Part 5

In some Swedish villages the bridal costume (an example of Folkdräkt) was so expensive that it was owned by the parish and loaned out on wedding days.
This one is from Rättvik.

Traditional Swedish national costumes are sometimes worn on special occasions, such as Midsummer. All such costumes are brightly colored. Sverigedräkten, a version mainly in blue and yellow, has been the established National Costume since 1983 and is thus worn by royalty on some official occasions.

SENEGAL

What Is Your Favorite Traditional Clothing? -Clothes and Facts - Part 5

From simple white with intricate embroidery to something like a French courtesan would wear!

Taking pride in one's appearance is very important to the Senegalese, which is why you will find even the poorest people try to be well-dressed.

Men and women wear beautifully-designed long flowing robes called boubou. Abdourahmane is particularly proud of his traditional wear and enjoys dressing up and wearing his boubou, although not quite as much as he likes wearing his basketball shirts.

FINLAND

What Is Your Favorite Traditional Clothing? -Clothes and Facts - Part 5

Finnish national dress originated in the 16th and 17th centuries. The clothing changed greatly during the 20th century as a result of new sewing techniques and the development of industrial clothing production. Today, the National Costume Council of Finland works to maintain and develop the traditional costumes and to educate the Finnish people about them.

The outfits vary by region, due to cultural and climate differences between different parts of Finland. Such traditional costumes are usually reserved for special occasions and performances, as well as national holidays, and are not worn in daily life.

SPAIN

What Is Your Favorite Traditional Clothing? -Clothes and Facts - Part 5

This costume from La Alberca seems a far cry from the "usual" vision of a Spanish national dress.
The heavy beading and ornamentation is more African tribal than traditional Spanish.

Fashion in Spain is an eclectic blend of traditional Spanish and contemporary Western style. Traditional Spanish attire was known its elegance and multicolored decoration. The fabrics were rich and embellished with metallic thread and jewels. Today's Spanish clothes are still colorful but with more of a Western flair for everyday wear. However, festivals, bullfights and ceremonies still call for traditional clothing.

What i find amazing is that each country expresses their identity through costumes, which is usually associated with a geographic area or a period of time in history, they also indicate social, marital and/or religious status....

I would love to have at least an accessory from each country, until now, North Africa is my favorite.

What about you ?
