You forgot seahorses. The males gestate the young.
Same as penguins. The males keep the eggs warm over the winter while the females go off to hunt.
That’s still a gender role assigned to the males of that species
@PathosOverLogos not... really...
I think you are confused about what a gender role is, child.
and yet... and yet...
I really fit the gender role for being female-I mean-I could have played with trucks and other boy toys when I was a little girl (because my brother had them around) , but I just naturally wanted to play with dolls and tea sets. I do not have a clue as to how to fix a car or change a tire. I shy away from confrontation and am actually a little submissive. Many times I find myself acting like a girly girl, even though I am not always fond of this role and would really like to be more assertive.
I believe that there may be as much nature as there is nurture in this equation.
Because YOU fit the role.
Other girls do not. At all. There is no nature in this besides individual personalities.
You fit the "female" role because that is YOUR personality.
I don't because that is MY personality.
Some boys act more feminine. Thats THEIR personality.
It has nothing to do with whats on our chest and in between our legs. It has to do with who we are
agreed :)
um... we aren't animals?
I would be more interested in a comparison of different cultures throughout history.
i mean, some animals can change their gender and some produce asexually, this is a bad argument.
Lets be clear, i'm on your side, gender roles are dumb, but this is a bad argument.
It still stands that móst animals do it the 'traditional' way. The point of this argument is that males and females have different bodies, different brain chemistry, and therefore take on different roles. Generally speaking.
300 years ago men wore make-up, high heels, pantyhose and powdered curly wigs. That was masculinity back then, now we have a new definition. People who talk about cross-dressers and transgenders as being "evil" are clearly just ignorant idiots.
Plus we all know that Jesus was a homosexual cross-dresser, so there's nothing immoral about switching genders.
It all depends on their evolution. Many anthropods - insects, arachnids, etc - have sexual dimorphism in reverse of many of the other types of animals. The female is larger than the male and often consumes them after mating.
I don't see how your presentation is supposed to debunk gender roles as what you have shown is evolutionary behavior.
Good take though as it is interesting. Hyenas are interesting in that the female has an elongated sexual organ that looks like a males.
I agree mostly with the points you have mentioned.
They make full sense.
Can we now please re-discuss: Marital laws, Divorce laws, Alimony, Police, Military, Nations, Borders, Table manners, and such.
As long as I have time I will make more my takes covering points you have mentioned
.. those are animals, we're humans.. completely different species.
There are gender roles in terms of other animals..
.. and there are gender roles in terms of our own species.
Why do you people need to be told this?
Human gender roles are natural to all other animals but are natural to humans. Gender roles in general are obviously natural as most animals prove. Doesn't matter if they're reversed, they exist in wildlife for sure.
Yes and Black Widow spiders eat the males. Are you going to go out and start killing and eating men now? Your comparison is asinine. Many species have behaviors completely unique to them. Why should we be any different?
Those are outliers and even if we ignore that, I dont see how gener roles in other species invalidates gender roles in humans.
Correct. They are outliers.
This may be true for these species, but you can't deny that human gender roles are natural. This was the meta to survive, just like for the angler fish its meta is to fuse with a female when you are male. Gender roles are survival tactics.
Great take! I remember a FB group called "I wish I were a bonobo..."
cherry picking a couple of species to rationalise your perversions is absurd. this proves nothing.
I think "perversions" is a bit much, but yes, it's cherry-picking.
So if the gender roles are different than how they are in humans then it's not natural? What a terrible argument.
"Gender Roles Are Not Natural"
Nonsense. Exceptions don't disprove a rule.
We CAN assume the other role, but it does not come naturally.
there are over 500 genetic and neuronal differences between the genders.
With other animals, gender roles are natural. Men and women are different and have different strengths. Why, why, why fight this? Embrace it.
Excellent mytake, there are even more compelling examples, like the Seahorse (males give birth).
Some human examples are also well known from history (Amazons and other female warriors).
You forgot to mention female hyenas have the bigger penises... It's actually a giant clit and when giving birth the babies have to chew their way out.
