October 31: Halloween. The Only Day Where We Allow Our Children to Associate With Strangers

In today's world, and before us, October 31st was the day children go dressing up in costumes and go Trick-o-Treating.

Trick or Treat they yell..

Kids upon kids.. Ringing your door bell shouting "trick or treat" or "give me the damn candy fool"

this would be better..

But Im sure some of us would love this at our door step ;)

Now here's my issue. We tell children and kids not to to talk to strangers, or take candy from strangers..

So we allow our children, One day, out of the 365 days a year. To get candy from strangers? this is legalized way for children to beg for candy from strangers.... Im not a cynic. Just thinking about this

I never went trick-or-treating at strangers houses....I'm from a very rural community (where many people know each other anyway) so I couldn't walk to people's houses. Everyone lives too far apart. My parents just drove me to the homes of family and friends to go trick-or-treating. I still got tons of candy and it was fun.

At the very least, I notice parents accompany their little ones until a certain age at which point they go the buddy system.

As a kid we only went to malls and shopping centers nearby. Then to my neighborhood

I live in a small town where everyone knows what brand of tp we buy so we don't worry too much. Plus we only go to people's houses we actually know.
That's one benefit of living in a tiny town.
If I lived in a bigger town or even a city I'd take my kid to the local churches or the schools, we wouldn't go door to door. Too dangerous.

some of these kids dont, they go by themselves in groups.

Well first:
everyone I know wouldn't even dare let the little kids go alone, they all have a responsible adult that's very close by.

2nd: most crimes especially rape, murder and abuse are committed by people that the victims know. That's why you'll notice that stranger danger is no longer taught in schools.

Kids typically go out with parents or a trusted adult... once they reach middle school they go in groups without a parent... they have cellphones I think it’s ok
