Saving The Libraries: Round 7

SpiderManFan2002

Today is Halloween, and I had a meeting the library campaign people so that's where I went today, and now I'm gonna tell you how that went.

My day:

I didn't go to college today, because it's the holidays, so I just woke up, layed in bed for a bit, got up, watched TV, saw my new college bag and got so happy about that because I love my new bag so much- anyway after that, I ate, then I packed my bag (I decided to use my old college bag because it was empty) then left the house and bus was here pretty much as soon as I arrived at the bus stop.

The bus was basically empty, and it wasn't a long ride to where the meeting was, I got off my stop and walked to the place where everyone was meeting.

I walked in and I was instantly confused. The place was so big, I didn't know where to go. Luckily one of the workers in that place, came to help, I told them what I was here for and they told me where I needed to go... But I still got lost.

You can't blame me, it's such a big place and I'm a small girl. But again, luckily, this woman was walking up the stairs and I asked her if she knew where the room I was supposed to be going to was- and turns out she was actually attending the same meeting as me, so we went to the room together.

I was worried about being late, but I was on time. And I handed in the petitions I got signatures for and we had to write our names on this piece of paper to state we've attended, so I did that too.

After that, they started talking. They're like an activist group so they had other things to talk about- like review previous meetings, and I didn't understand anything they were talking about because it was all to do with the group itself, and selecting people for roles within the group and stuff. I'm not an official member of the group - because that costs money - so I just volunteer there. While they were discussing that, I just sat there in silence.

Then the reason I came - the topic of the libraries - was raised and at first I didn't say anything, I just listened because they were more knowledgable on the issue than I was. I actually learned a lot by listening to them.

The more I learned the more disgusted I felt- I can't say the exact facts today because of confidentiality, facts I've stated previously have been from the news so I had no problem stating them here, but these facts must remain confidential for now. Don't ask me 'why' I didn't write the rules.

And some stories I heard about library users really just reassured me that many in our city need the libraries to stay open for various reasons. For certain clubs it is said that they have up to 50 children attending. So, that speaks for itself. In my city, adults, elderly, teens, children- people of all ages visit the library.

In some places people may not use library services as much. But it's not like that in my city. Many need the libraries over here.

After they discussed certain facts about the libraries, the woman who I'd met previously (H) asked me for ideas and told me to elaborate on the one I suggested.

Basically, I believed we should go into schools and do activities with the children about the libraries. Meaning, explaining why libraries are important to our society, and then getting them to have their input about what they think about libraries, and then maybe we get them to do like a poster or write a letter about how they feel about the libraries.

It sounds a little rusty, but we're still in the planning stages. We are thinking of going ahead with it, but we have to contact the appropriate people- to plan it properly.

I mean, we can't just turn up at a school whip out some presentation stuff and be like:

"Hi kids let's save the libraries!"

Nah, it has to be organised professionally. And we're thinking of going to my old primary school first to kick it off- because the staff know me, they like me there because I was a good kid, so it'd be good place for us to start.

Apart from that, there's going to be a workshop somewhere this weekend and I'm going to help the councillor dude I met last time with that.

After we'd finished discussing the libraries, the meeting was going on for a while- but my parents wanted me home after a certain time because it's dark outside. So I packed my bag and left.

Like a genius, I went the wrong way to exit the building. That building is new to me, so I hardly know anything about it- and everything there looks the same so it's easy to get lost (my justifications lol) but some people who were working there were like:

"OH! What are you doing?" - hopefully they didn't think I was up to some sketchy business lol

I told them that I was just leaving the building and then they told me I was going the wrong way, so I went the right way.

And when I got outside, it was dark and cold. It felt like the cold was biting my legs- even though they were fully covered I still felt the cold there the most. It's the first time, I've been to that part of my city alone whilst it's dark. It looked so pretty though with all the lights they had up, and all the pretty lights made it less daunting.

I saw kids running around with their parents in little Halloween costumes (bless) one of them had a bucket of sweets and nodded at me for some reason, as I was walking to the bus stop lol- I thought his costume was adorable, a little skeleton xD

And my bus took absolutely ages to come, but it did and I was happy because the bus was actually warm. And watching the city go by, when it's dark was actually really pretty. So I enjoyed that- then I came home, had some juice and a chocolate apple (because it's Halloween xD) and watched some TV shows, went on the internet for a little bit, then I ate, I asked my little brother how his boxing class went today and we did that thing where we randomly insult each other for no reason, and now I'm on G@G writing this. xD

Now I'm going to make tea :P

I hope you enjoyed this MyTake, and I hope you had a great Halloween! ;P

Thank you for reading :) <3
