Saving The Libraries: Round 8

Nothing too big today, but we did something- so of course I'm going to share that with you guys and girls. But before we get into this I just want to say something...

I am tired of people saying things like people don't use libraries where they live so they believe they are a waste of money. Because these MyTakes aren't about where they live, they're about the libraries where I live. And people actively use the libraries over here, every time I go to one, it's packed out with people doing their thing- so while some people may not need them, we do- that's why I'm fighting for this cause.

With all that said, let's get into this.

My Day:

Today I woke up early but because I went to sleep late last night, I just continued to put my alarm on snooze and fall asleep and wake up again constantly. After I finally decided to get up, I got up, did my bathroom stuff, went downstairs- had coffee because I needed caffine, had an egg, went on social media to see what my friends were up to, and to ask one of the campaign people if they needed me to come.

And turns out they didn't need me so I just went back to sleep.

JUST KIDDING ;P

He said he wanted as much people to come as possible and the more the merrier- I was a little worried, I might just show up and they won't want me there and I'd have to go home, but they wanted me to come, so I went :)

So I got on the bus, the ride there was nice, then I got off and walked to the library in which we were giving out leaflets about the libraries.

At first I didn't see anyone so again, I'd got worried they'd all gone home and I just showed up like an idiot- but they were there, and they were glad I came. And they gave me some leaflets to hand to people coming in and out of the library and I did- people were busy so I just told them what the leaflet was about and off they went but some who stopped to talk- I explained deeper.

Again, a diverse range of people were going to this library. Families, the elderly, young people, kids of various ethnic backgrounds- it's really nice to see. And I think they had some face-painting activity going on there today, for the kids, because I saw lots of kids coming out of the library with their faces cutely painted.

So another reason why we need the libraries: They hold fun creative activity for our kids, I don't see my little cousins often- but let's say one day I had to babysit them for some reason and they were bored and wanted to do something- I wouldn't be able to afford to take them to say a play center which costs money so I'd see if the library had any fun activities going on- and if they did, I'd take them and if they didn't, I'd still take them to the library because they still have a children's section with lots of good books for kids, and toys to play with. And many parents, older siblings or cousins or whoever looks after the kids takes them to the library because kids enjoy it there and it's affordable.

And I remember this one little girl and her grandmother stopping to talk to us. They're active library users, and the little girl was telling us her favourite author was Jaquline Wilson who is known for writing the 'Tracy Beaker' books and how she went to see Nick Sharrat- the guy who illustrates JW's books. I told her that when I was her age (yep I'm sounding old) Jaquline Wilson was also my favourite author too! ^_^

And the campaign workers who I was handing out with, were really good at talking to people. Better than awkward little me lol- but this was my first time in an area which wasn't my own. One of them told me, he'd been visiting the local library near my house ever since the 1960s, that's longer than my dad has been alive! Saying that, that's when my paternal grandparents first came to England, the 1960s.

And the other was telling me about his daughters.

Then the young guy (but still older than me) was just asking me what I thought of the meeting on Thursday, and I told him it was good but I found it a little awkward and I didn't know what to say- and some stuff I didn't understand what they were talking about- so I just stayed silent. He told me it took him a long time to get used to meetings, and when he first started he just sat back and watched and learned too.

He told me about his role in the group, and some plans he had for the group too and asked me if I wanted to become an official member- and I do, but for now I am just remaining a volunteer because I need money to join- I'm going let my savings build up some more, and then join- and that's what I told him.

As for the weather, it was cold and rainy- not heavy rain, light-ish rain. But I had a coat and hat on, and my hands felt the cold- but I pulled an Elsa, and I just thought: "the cold never bothered me anyway!" ;)

Because it's for the libraries, and looking at all the different people on the bus, and it reminds me of who I'm doing this for. My city. The people in my city, who I consider to be my community, my people. :)

After a while, it was time to go home and before going home and went to the bank. After the bank, I went to the bus stop and the bus was soon here and I went home.

And now I'm writing this and drinking tea :P

Thank you for reading :) <3
