Why Sydney's Jean ad is causing uproar

One of my favorite movies is Idiocracy. And its laden with "eugenics". It portrays IQ as genetic. Which is wrong. But at least its a parody.

The best studies that IQ (not a real metric for intelligence) is genetically attained shows children less so and teens more so. Why? Because PARENTING. Reading to children, having sit down dinners, involved in schooling increases likelihood of IQ being higher. Which parents do that? Smart ones.

The latest controversy is Sydneys jeans ad. I dont really care about adverts for jeans. But the constant mistake of eugenics never dies.

While hair color and weight, and some other traits have genetic influence, it pales in comparison to UPBRINGING and teaching health to kids. So much so upbringing can counteract genetics. Sydney isn't even blond, by the way. And prob with cosmetic surgery. Al celebs do.

Genotypes can pass on traits similar to other families. Recent studies show more connection of uncles and aunts rather than parents.

Alleles are Heterozygous genes that have a probability of passing on certain traits. But as far as we know, its still a crap shoot. There are NO good genes.

That's why eugenics is bunk and "good genes" are inherently horrific. Its like my dollar is better than your dollar to buy a soda. Whether that soda is flat or carbonated and cold is probability.

Thats the uproar. And that people can't seem to understand this. And so much violence is still based on these beliefs.

The uproar isn't caused by a misunderstanding of genetics for the most part. Most of the people who are mad know fuck all about genetics. The uproar is because someone screeched "raaaaacist" and the other little sheep chased the bandwagon until they caught it. If Sydney had been anything other than white, we wouldn't be having this conversation. Besides, you're overthinking it. It comes down to some people are just better looking than others. Period. In the current political climate It's probably not the brightest idea to label genes good or bad. At best just a dumb judgment and we should see the ad as a harmless play on words. At worst it's a deliberate dangerous dog whistle.

All publicity is good publicity, for the jeans company. Last time, that ad was for Calvin Klein featuring a teenage Brooke Shields making comments that went over her head (another ad: "What comes between me and my CKs? Nothing.").

I've still to see anything like the hype the right is giving it from the left. I think they're pretending there was a massive backlash, when there were a few people online who said things.

There are genetic traits that are not very desirable. Hemophilia ran through the Royal Family for generations. Nobody really wants to be color blind. Yes , environment plays a big role in how well you do on an IQ test but if your parents are short, chances are you will never er play in the NBA.

Also, eugenics involves killing of a targeted massive part of the population. Simply stating that some genes are better than others doesn't kill anyone. Margaret Sanger makes a better eugenicist than American Eagle and I actually think she is one.

I am actually one of the twins that was studied. My father was killed in Iraq amd my mother lost us to foster care due to her drinking. I was adopted by an auto mechanic supervisor and an administrative assistant in blue collar Texas and my brother was raised by a school teacher and a VP of sales at a programing company in Greenwich Connecticut. The first time I met my twin brother I was 27. We both have an IQ around 110, 115. We are both in Finance amd married very similar woman. In my case it was all very much nature. There was no nurture and what there was it was very different.
